Now I want to take the DVD folder and add chapters and other cool stuff like that. What is my next step. I thought I would be able to load the files into TMPEG DVD Author but it does not seem to work that way..
Thanks

If I use a program like DVD encrypter and encrypt the movie in ISO mode can i then use a program like ISO Buster to extract the needed files to add to my project in TMPEG DVD Author?

Am I not formatting my requests the proper way? I don't think so but if I am please let me know so that I can do the right thing and get some help with my questions.
I have found out that I can rename the VOBs to MPG and they will pretty much still be the same file. I can ever get those to play with sound in PowerDVD. Problem now is that when I go to add my chapter points in TMPGEnc DVD Author it will not play the sound. Or at least it does not preview the sound. Is there an easy way to resolve this issue. I fell like I am almost there but I am sure someone out there has the answer that will get me to the final solution

Possibly !
From the top.
"Just finished recording from a VHS tape "
With what ? A standalone, or to your computer through a MPEG2 capture card?
...Now I want to take the DVD folder ..
What folder? DVD 's are simply MPEG video (will ignore audio for moment) in a particular structure. How did you obtain this DVD folder?

PowerDVD will play mpeg2 files with the file extension *.BOB if you wanted it to.
You need to load a video / audio file(s) into your authoring program. From there you can typically import bitmaps/jpgs for making menus/buttons. The application will allow "hot links" on those buttons to forefill a purpose .ie: play -
holistic,
Thanks for the reply and the advice. I will now restrusture my question be more specific.
I used my Sharp stand-alone DVD recorder to make my DVD. Recorded it in Video Mode and finalized so that my DVD player in my PC and my DVD stand-alone can read and play it. I also want to take my created DVD-RW and copy the contents over to my hard drive so that I can add chapters using TMPGEnc DVD Author. The folder I was talking about was the Video_TS folder that the recorder created. When I import the VOB files into TMPGEnc DVD Author I am not getting any sound on the preview.
My ultimate goal is to just add the chapter points to my already created VOB files. Is there a better program to use then TMPGEnc DVD Author for this. Specifically one where I can preview the sound while editing
Thanks -
Hmmmmmmmm - IFOedit comes to mind, but I for I haven't had the time or patience to figure it out.
Another solution (that i can think of - as i have never done the authoring thing 'backwards') ,be it a long tedious one.
Rip your DVD with DVD decrypter into one huge 4Gb (or whatever) VOB.
Since it is a home built is shouldnt have any extra audio or multi angle, so now try loading VOB into TMPGENc and deMUXing. Load files back into TMPGenc author for reauthoring. Should work --- in theory.
Let me know - am curious.

holistic,
Do you think the problem could be the recorded audio? When I record with the Sharp Stand-Alone I can choose either Dolby Digital or PCM for Audio. In this case I chose the default which is DD. If I record with the PCM instead do you think my end result will still be No Audio in TMPGEnc DVD Author? I am willing to try the way you discussed as a test but I am also wondering if there is an easier way to get the Audio Preview in TMPGEnc DVD Author.
Thanks -
AFAIK TMPGEnc DVD Author will not play DD audio in preview mode
But audio is there after processing - try importing vob from disc and try a small 2 min clip - replay these with powerdvd bla bla ..
Should work -
"I used my Sharp stand-alone DVD recorder to make my DVD. Recorded it in Video Mode and finalized so that my DVD player in my PC and my DVD stand-alone can read and play it."
Doesn't that mean it already has chapters on it? -
Roderz,
Thanks for your reply. Will TMPGEnc DVD Author be able to preview the Audio if I record it using the Sharp Recorder and choose PCM for audio to record? I really need to be able to hear the audio in the preview so I can add my chapter points.
Thanks -
Will TMPGEnc DVD Author be able to preview the Audio if I record it using the Sharp Recorder and choose PCM for audio to record?
To teast Load you vob and pick any wav file on your HD as audio source and preview - should hear something at least! -
I have'nt been able to preview the audio either so I usually do playback in a dvd software app and remember the time/frames...not good but it works...sorry for not being able to give you a better solution.

Roderz,
So if I record with PCM audio the audio contained in the VOB will be actually a WAV file embedded into the VOB and should be previewable (heard when loading the VOB) in edit mode of TMPGEnc DVD Author?
handyman,
I turned off auto chapters in the Sharp's menu. I had read here before that letting the Sharp Recorder do the chapters or adding them manually with the Sharp recorder does not produce as good of results (causes a slight pause at each chapter) as doing it on the PC afterwards. If this is incorrect I would do the manual chapters from the Sharp itself. That way I could cut out the PC from the scenerio all together. Adding Chapters is really all I want to do here.
If so then will I be able to add these chapters in Video mode on a DVD-RW/R that is not finalized or will I have to record in VR mode? I was under the impression that VR mode will also not work on DVD-R Disks. Is that correct?
Does adding chapters in TMPGEnc DVD Author also add this slight pause between chapters that I have heard about? -
yes
-
Roderz,
Thanks I will try in PCM mode tonight and see how it goes.
Thanks to all who replied. I will post results. -
One other question. if I demultiplex the VOB file to create seperate Audio and Video files. Can I then load these seperate files into TMPEG DVD author and preview the audio? Or will it still not be heard?
