  1. Hi,
I am trying to find out how to convert an AVI to MP4 to show on a Motorola phone.
I have followed the advice on these pages, and have converted AVI to MP4 using mpegable X4 live.
However, I cannot view these files on the phone (Motorola A920).
They view fine using the codec I have from mpegable on the PC.
I can download the files to the phone, but I then just get the message "cannot play video".

I have uploaded MP4 video from the phone, so if there was a way to find out all the paramaters of the MP4 maybe I could set this in mpegable?
    Is this possible?

I have tried AVICodec and GSpot to find out what the paramaters are, but neither of these worked for MP4.

    Any ideas anyone, thanks!

  2. You should find out what resoltuions and video specs (bitrate, VBR/CBR etc) and audio specs the phone supports. Also what codecs...

Only info I could find on this phone was that it supports 256kbps video.. so it's a start.. you could put up one of the demo video's that i'm sure shipped with the phone and I can see if I can figure it out for you.

If you want to email it (if it's under 10mb, just PM me)

  4. Thanks Tito, I will send you the details.
I could not find anything either on Motorola's site or the three.co.uk site, they are the service provider for the phone.
All it seems to say is it supports mp4!

I'd think the Motorola phone takes 3gp files - there's a "anything" to 3gp encoder to be found at Nokias developer site. There's another thread (search for Nokia and 3gp) where it's a link to it (you have to register (free) to get access).

    Found the link!

    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

QT is only needed if you want to view 3gp clips on your PC. To create 3gp clips, what's needed is the encoder from Nokia.

To boot, you only need the free QT player together with the (also) free QT 3gp plugin (as it seems intended for use with QT Pro, but works equally well with QT player std) to view 3gp on your PC. Can come in handy, but the Nokia encoder also has a "preview" function (postview, more to the point) which allows you to play back the encoded 3gp file.

  11. WOW, it works!
    Next stupid question is.....
    the movie is upside down!
On the phone this is no problem as I can just turn it the other way.
However, I cannot see any way of changing this on the Nokia software.
Has anyone else come accross this, or is it just me?

No, that didn't happen when I converted some VCD mpegs to 3gp. Might be some codec involved in decoding your source before the encoding stage. Try different sources in different formats (AVI-DivX, AVI-XviD, mpeg2, mpeg1 etc) to see if it's the same for all formats, or just in some.

  13. OK, thanks, will have a play and see what happens.
I have just noticed they are reversed as well.
So it is upside down and like a mirror image.
    Quite fun really

Yep, that really sounds like a codec and/or filter that needs to have its settings changed.
