  1. Hi all! Newbie here...

I'm not new to DV or capturing, but this is the first time I use my own
    newly purchased camera.
I've read the sticky, but I don't think it covers my problem...

    Anyways:

    * When I try to capture from my camera(Panasonic NV-MX300) I never get any dropped frames(not reported by the programs anyway), but with irregular intervals there's distortion in picture and sometimes audio. Looks like pixelation/huge coloured "blocks" in the pic, and sometimes audio noise.
    * I can see this in the preview when I capture, but it never happens at the same time in the clips.
    * Playback directly to TV is fine, and I've never had a problem printing back to tape.
    * Ive tried this both on my new desktop computer and my laptop - same result.
    * I've tried capturing with Adobe Premiere 6.5, Vegas 4.0 and XP's own MovieMaker. Like I said - never get any dropped frames(reported anyway), but the errors are always happening.

Anyone experienced this? Is it my camera/DV-out?

    My computer:

    P4 2.66 GHz
    512 MB RAM
80 GB WD 7200 IDE disk(used only for capturing, editing)
Epox 4PEA+ motherboard with integrated FireWire
    WinXP Pro/Win2000 dual boot

Since playback to tv is fine, I guess that there is a problem with your firewire cable. Did you tried another one?!
As far as I know, send and receive signals are separated in the cable just like a serial cable...

  3. Thanks for the reply!

That was my thought too, but I've tried both my desktop and laptop - and to the desktop there's a 4->6 cable, while to the laptop there's a 4->4 cable. Same problem

Could there be a problem sending the signal through the camera's FireWire port, while recieving is fine?

Maybe I have more luck with one of the capturing apps on this site? 'll try tonight...

Hmmmm, since you tried different cables and computers It looks like that the firewire interface in your camera is not functioning properly....!!!

  5. Yeah - I'm afraid so... The camera is used, but there's still warranty, so if I have to fix it, it will hopefully not be too expensive(if I have to pay at all).

I had this exact same problem with my last system.
After several weeks of tinkering, it turned out to be a problem with the motherboards PCI bus. I found a patch on the manufacturers website which fixed it.
Given that you have this this problem with a PC and a laptop it's unlikely to be the same fault but might be worth looking into.
