I downloaded some nice wallpaper files from the net but they have a quite large semi-transparent logo in the right hand side of the image. Is there a filter or way in photoshop or other editing tool to remove this without hurting the original image?

    thx.

Well, you can replace sections of any graphic. Depends what graphics editor you use and how much time and care you want to spend on it.

It's very easy if the background behind the logo is solid - just "paint" over it. Trickier is if what is below/behind it is a complicated image.

    I do it a lot.

I once had to remove a beer bottle from someone's hand (an incriminating photo of under-aged drinker) :cD that was going in a photo album. I managed to keep/replace everything "under" the bottle.

But, no there is no filter. You need to do it manually with combinations of tools in your editing program.
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

the best way to take out the logo is using the clone stamp feature in photoshop or the clone brush in paint shop pro,it will give you the best results but you have to be very patient.

If the logo gives the URL of the creator's website, go to that site, and try contacting the person who created or owns the photo...and ask 'em if they will send you the wallpaper without the logo

The logos are there for copyright protection, but if you're just using the wallpaper for personal use, the person who owns the original will perhaps send you their artwork if you ask nicely...or they might ask for a fee.

Worth a try anyway - some people are nice

In PaintShop Pro, open the pic first.
Under Image (on the toolbar), select Watermarking...then select Read Watermark.
If there's a watermark, it may contain extra info on the terms of usage or the creator's email.

In Photoshop, open the pic first.
Under Filter (on the toolbar), select Digimarc from the pulldown menu, and select Read Watermark.

That option may save you a lot of time and effort 8)

Fair warning - removing the logo yourself may be illegal.
