Hi,
I converted my DVD to SVCD successfully using DVD2SVCD and CCE. The results are just fantastic and the movie took 2 CDRs. My question is if I want to make a VCD, I assumed that it would take 1 VCD as the quality would be lower. The movie length is 1 hr, 45 mins. So is there any way I can fit this on a 80 min VCD.
Cheeers,
CJ

Try this: https://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=3#comments
for this and future projects. There's no place like 127.0.0.1

1 hour 45 minutes = 105 minutes.......80 minute CD .....hmmmmm
NOPE!
Best you could achieve would be a shitty xVCD overburned with low bitrate audio and a BBBBBPBBBBBP type of gop. -
cj99,
Try KVCD templates. These templates modified MPEG1 & MPEG2 GOP structure & quantization matrix, and the resulting output are quite nice. It will fit your 105min of VCD in a 80min CDR. BTW, these are TMPGEnc templates, and so I guess you have to learn how to encode using TMPGEnc. Anyway, you can find the templates and guides at:

105 minute movie on 1 CDR can look as good as a so-so VHS rental tape, via KVCD. Sound will be poor as well. However, it can be done, it just won't look anywhere near as good as your SVCD does. Your going to sacrifice nearly all of your quality for the convienence of not changing a disk 1/2 way through.

Let me tell you right now that even a properly made to spec VCD will look like shit compared to SVCD. The VCD format has picture similiar to that of a VHS tape. Sometimes it can look better but often ... especially in fast motion scenes ... it can look worse. So in short the VCD format just ain't worth it.
And to answer your question ... you can only fit 80 minutes on a standard 80 minute CD-R using standard VCD.

Wow,
That's a lot of input!!!! Thanks, I think I'll stick to SVCDs. I can fit a 1hr 45 mins movie on 2 SVCDs, using 1 pass VBR.
I wanted to know if I set CCE to 3 or 4 pass VBR, will the quality be exponentially better? I've tried the 1 pass VBR Guide that is available here and was satisfied with the result, but my computer takes ages (128 MB RAM) to complete a 3 or 4 pass VBR. Is it worth it?
Cheers.
