  1. As best as I can tell, installing WinDVD messed up my video.

Here's what has happened so far:

I have a Dell P4 with an AGP video card. After installing WinDVD, I was able to view 3 or 4 DVDs. Then WinDVD froze. While attempting to uninstall re-install it, the monitor started showing garbled multi images, like both the V-hold and H-hold gone crazy. Nothing helped, until I switched to a PCI video card, which works fine, except it is lower performance. I bought a new AGP card, and plug-n-play does not send feed to monitor. I tried old card in different computer; works fine. If I install the old card, feed is sent to monitor, but all garbled. PCI card works fine, except if I try to view DVD via WinDVD, it's garbled, but only within the WinDVD window.

Any help or pointers will be appreciated.

    Thanks!

And you've already gone against the grain by bumping your own post rather than editing the original.

Be patient. :c) Let it sit a few days, and if no replies, try again. Perhaps no one who's been on so far knows an answer.

  5. well, try completely uninstalling windvd. or even try restoring to a previous back up or restore point.

your problems sound like your card has been set for a resolution or refresh rate that your monitor cannot handle, but if it happens within the windvd window, it seems like it must be a diiferent issue.

best advice i can give is to completely uninstall windvd and if that doesn't cure it, possibly any other mpeg2 codecs as well in case there is a conflict.

  6. Thanks for your response!

I have uninstalled WinDVD. I don't know how to go about with removing the other codecs, or to go back to a previous point. The monitor was working fine on the AGP card prior to the problem. Not anymore. Now it's connected to a PCI card with lower settings and works fine, except if I try installing WinDVD, then only that window gets messed up.

WinDVD, I don't care for, but would like to have the better graphics back(AGP Card). Also, the PCI Video Card is using up the only slot I have for USB2.

  7. Re-install your video driver. I had the same problem, WinDVD loads it's own video driver and screws up everything. I refuse to use WinDVD anymore!!! If it's an NVIDIA graphics card go to NVIDIA.COM and download the newest driver for free.

    Just my .02¢
