..............How big an mpg is gonna turn out when converted from an avi file on tmpnec? I had a film which was about 600mb as an avi and when encoded turned out to be around 870mb which was fine cos ive got 900mb disks.
I then got hold of 'devils advocate', which was 560mb as an avi but when converted in the same way as above ended up being around 1.2gb as an mpg!!!
Why is this? I always thought as an mpg your going to be around 200-300mb more than the avi tops. Is there a way to find out this before encoding so I can know whether to split the file into 2 or not?
Any info would be great and save me alot of time - Thanks alot

try reading some of the guides, pay particular attention to anythign that talks about bitrate.
I would be more specific, but I don't feel like helping somebody who can't help themselves.
ok fine.. go to https://www.videohelp.com/convert and look in there. -
This question pops up at least once a week. The problem is that these Divx/avi files use VBR MP3 audio and it causes the encoder(esp.TMPGEnc) to report a larger than normal file.Convert the audio to WAV first by importing avi to Audio Source in TMPGEnc and then go to File->Output to file->WAV.Then import avi to Video Source and WAV to Audio Source->encode.
BTW..I don't condone the d/l of copyrighted movies. -

I don't believe it's legal to keep the backup of a DVD you sold or gave to a friend. Might be wrong, but I wouldn't go around telling people about your copying habits.
