I am very new to this still but had a few generic questions that didnt seem to fit into any of the faq's.
I mainly deal with music/concert dvd-rs that have no copy protection. I've been using Roxio 6 disc copier (dvd to hd to dvd-r) and Dvd Decrypter (dvd to image to dvd-r).
I have a few dvd-rs that were made for me that play perfectly but dvd-decrypter will image them to 99% and stop with out giving me an error and leave about 12-64kb uncopied. Is there any way around this like EAC and it's burst mode has for audio cds? I don't see any visible marks on the dvd-r burned surface. This is very irritating and if there is a simple solution, smack me with it![]()
Also, on a side note, what would be 'the best' solution for copying legal dvd copies? All of my shows are 1 layer and well under the size limit. There must be one program/method that is easy and reliable. I am on XP with a p4 1.8ghz and a gig of RDRAM.
I'll apologize if I should have posted this elsewhere and thanks in advance for any info
Eric

First...ditch Roxio. You can use it for CD burning but I wouldn't use it in any fashion for anything dealing with DVD.
I would just use Decrypter to rip the DVD to begin with. If you are under the 4.7 file size (DVD-5) then I would just open decrypter....mode>ISO>READ and have decrypter make the ISO straight away. Then put in a blank disc and goto mode>ISO>write and let decrypter burn it. If this is what you are talking about by "dvd-decrypter will image them to 99% and stop with out giving me an error and leave about 12-64kb uncopied." Then I would rip the DVD in file mode using DVD decrypter. I've never had a DVD that decrypter wouldn't rip.
Since you are having problems with decrypter burning it, I would also go to www.doom9.net and download Daemon Tools so you can watch the DVD from it's ISO file and make sure everything is like you want it before burning it.
I would be willing to bet that your error is coming from you ripping the DVD with Roxio.
As far as the legal DVD's, I'm assuming you mean movies...there are 100's of tutorials on this site for that very purpose. I use Decrypter to rip, IC7 to compress, PDI2ISO to convert, Daemon Tools to check, and Decrypter to burn.[/quote] -
Stop copying cheap DVDR's? It's probably the real issue here.
Tell DVDDecryptor to retry 5 times and move on. It sounds like the disks weren't closed right in the initial burn. Could be finger prints from the edge also.To Be, Or, Not To Be, That, Is The Gazorgan Plan -

The roxio is actually very decent for a 1 click dvd->image>dvd copy of the dvds that I have made myself. I'm still looking for this feature in Nero also, but haven't dug through the software yet.
Thanks for the links and I will check out the ideas you gave me. -

I've been using Roxio 6 disc copier (dvd to hd to dvd-r) and Dvd Decrypter (dvd to image to dvd-r).
As far as what to do with the files after ripping them...I'm not sure of your question. You are already backing up DVD's right? There really isn't much difference. If they are DVD-5 (meaning they will fit on a DVD-R without compression) then you can do it just like you have been. If they are DVD-9 (meaning that they are too big to fit on one DVD-R and need compressed) that is a different story. You will need a program like Instant Copy 7 (or 8) or DVD shrink to compress the files small enough to fit on a DVD-R disc.

If I use the File mode in Dvd decrypter, will I just burn the files afterwards onto a dvd as Data?
Sorry for being a newb, I got pretty far from right out of the boxThanks!

If they aren't protected , what's wrong with
firing up the burning program and telling it to make
a COPY ?
That's what I do. -
Well because the first program I tried was Dvd Decrypter and that was giving me an error while trying to image it. So I didn't want to end up with any coasters by trying to 'copy' on the fly. But when I use Roxio, I use the 'disc copy' feature, but it images it to the drive first rather than copying on the fly. It does the same thing, stops at 99%.
My whole point of this thread was looking for a way around this problem. Can I 'close' the dvds if they weren't done properly to begin with? Is there software with a 'burst' mode like EAC has for audio ripping? A way to force the rip perhaps...I dont know.
Thanks
