I`ve almost given up trying to work out why Tmpgenc keeps getting an error at the 32% mark of encoding. A window appears each time saying, "we are sorry for the inconvenience but this program will shut down and you will lose any unsaved information". Send an error report or not? Well i`ve sent an error report and heard nothing back. I`ve encoded dozens of movies now and i was in the middle of a 2nd cdr or the 2nd half of a movie on the 2nd cdr when this kept happening. I`ve tried another movie and walah same thing kept happening. Can someone please tell me what i can do, i`ve been to their website but they don`t offer assistance on their freeware products, thanks in advance, Mike

That error message is from Windows (you're using XP?), not tmpgenc.
Just means the program has crashed.

Try looking here first while awaiting replies. https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#problems

    Look at details for Freeze/Crash

    Maybe something there will help.

P.S. You've got your processor name where your OS should be in your details. If you change it, it may help others help you.

I ran into this problem last night. I had just installed the version of Power DVD that came with my Sony burner. Shortly after, I tried TMPgenc Plus, and it bombed. I did a system restore (you can also uninstall Power DVD, TMPgenc, and manually remove the reg keys for TMPGenc), reinstalled TMPGenc, and reinstalled my older version of Power DVD. Everything works fine again. I did this process three times to make certain the problem was with Power DVD. As soon as I installed the new version, TMPgenc would crash.

This may not be your problem, but it is something to look into.

Where you have "Pentium3" in the first line - that should be WinXP, your Operating System (OS) :c)

Thanks Sydneypup and Gees, sorry for the delay in responding to your suggestions. I fell asleep., and have just returned from work today. I have a Pentium4 2.4ghz system. I`ve tried to reinstall tmpgenc but it still fails at 32% on 2 movies that still need to be completed. I mean the 2nd cd of one back up movie and the 1st cd of the other movie. So do you think a system restore back to an earlier date would help? I`ll give it a try anyway and see how it goes. Hey Sydneypup did you have powerdvd running aswell when it bombed or was it just installed on your system. I have that player too but i`ve always had it and haven`t updated it or anything. Oh i don`t know if this makes a difference but the 2 movies are both divx5.1`s. Anyway thanks again guys.

You still have not corrected your details, so I assume you have not followed the link I provided you either?

Why not do those 2 things then come back to this thread - if it has not helped?

My problem occured when I upgraded to the OEM version of Power DVD XP. I installed the retail version, and it doesn't cause the problem.

I doubt a system restore will help unless a recently installed piece of software is causing the issue, or something corrupted some files.

I have no experience with Divx. Sorry I was not able to help.

So, FT Shark, you upgraded from a previous version of Power DVD to Power DVD XP OEM?

  13. I once had trouble in TMPGenc Plus b/c of PowerDVD - only b/c my source file was an MPEG-2 and TMPGEnc Plus uses the MPEG-2 decoder installed on your PC to decode. If your files are DivX5, then your problem may lie in with the codec. If you have Nimo Codec pack or something, uninstall it. The only Codecs/filters you need are the MPEG-Layer 3 codec, WMA codec, the Frameserving stuff (maybe), and for the filters, only install Morgan Multimedia Stream Switcher. Do NOT install ffdshow. I always had problems w/ TMPGenc and crap playback when I had that installed. Other people may tell you otherwise, but trust me - you won't regret getting rid of it if it is the source of your problem.

Thank you sydneypup, ft shark and xtreemkareem. I`ll try uninstalling the nimo codec pack i have and see how that goes. The only software that i have downloaded and in stalled is the divx5 codec and the gordian knot codecs pack. I just don`t get how the first cd was burnt ok then for the 2nd cd(being the 2nd half of the same movie, in a batch file) stops at exactly 32%. It was all set up at the same time, source settings and the like with TMPEgenc, so i can`t see whats changed because those installs i was talking about were done before i successfully completed the first half of the movie to cdr. Is there any other information that i can give you that may be able to help you help me work it out? Sorry to be a bother to anyone, i`m just alittle frustrated with it thats all. Thanks in advance.

Have you tried that link yet? It was the first reply to your question, but you have not said if you tried it.

But definately - removing any codec packs is a good thing to do.

Hi Gees, yeah sorry i did try that link you first gave me. Just one question, can you do the say thing(convert) with Virtual dub like tmpegenc? Because the link said to extract the audio files with virtualdub then convert with tmpegenc. I`ve never done that before(extracting audio that is). I guess there`d be a tutorial for a dumby like me right? Hey thanks again gees you`ve helped me alot.

You can work with virtualdub. A lot of people do frameserving from virtualdub to tmpgenc for encoding. Mostly to be able to use the filters that are available for Vdub, and not to have to save it as an additional file and then convert again.

There are lots of Guides listed under just below each program in the tools section. Probably all you'd ever need to do. :c)

Click either of the two auto-links for the programs and look through those listed guides.

I'm still not sure - did you eventually get tmpgenc working?

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you Gees. I`ve been away. Um no i`ve tried a couple of other movies through TMPEG and they worked fine it`s just the ones that use the DivX 5.1 Codec Decompressor. All i`m tryin to do is put some old videos onto cdr to keep. Most work but others don`t. So you`re saying i can do the conversion with virtual dub? I`ll have a look at the guides you`ve suggested and i`ll get back to you. Thanks again Gees, Mike.
