  1. Is there a tutorial out there on using DVDShrink to make the movie and menus only. I have looked and most of the tutorials show movie only.

    Thanks.

I'm with kizer8, I don't really want to buy dvd x copy just so that i can create a few dummy files. It really dosn't make much sence i don't think.

One question: wouldn't it be possible just to use one single dummy clip, copy and rename it, to fill in all of the missing gaps. Seem's it would be quicker to copy and rename one single small 14kb file, rather than using dvdxcopy to backup the whole disk to your HDD, when you only need a few small files.

Also: could you just use the advanced author-start/end feature in dvdshrink to create a file with only a few frames, then compress the crap out of it. then just save this compressed file to use as your filler file, so the menu works.

  6. Try contacting "Kelso" the person who made the guide. He has helped me in the past with this guide and has been great. Just go to the guide and on the bottom click on the link. This will give you the guide once again but below it will you give the names of people and Kelso himself that have posted comments about the guide. Simply click on IM next to his name and ask him the question yourself. You will get a faster response.

That's a good question by the way. Using both programs can be feel like a hassle sometimes. Still a great guide though.

You must have old version of it. Get a new one, say 2.3 or 3.0 Beta.

  8. I am having problems with beta version 3.5. Is anyone else having this problem? I make the dummy files with DVD X Copy then copy those over the Shrink files then when I go burn them with Nero it wont burn correctly. Only playing the burned disk on my computer and not my stand alone player.

  10. That guide is just for the movie only and it does not mention DVD X Copy which is half of the programs that you need to complete the task of movie and menu.

I don't get this. dvdshrink 2.3 or better decodes right from the source dvd, you don't need xcopy.

Why do you need to use DVDxCopy? I use DVDShrink and TMPGenc DVD Author to backup DVD. I find it to be a very simple process. Rip the DVD with DVDShrink and then burn to disc with TMPGenc DVD Author. No problem playing the discs on any of my standalone dvd players.

  13. tomames5:

what exactly do you burn with TMPGENC? The movie and the menu, the entire movie including extras, or just the movie.

The reason why DVD X Copy and Shrink work well together is because you're able to have fully functional menus (chapter selections) and have the entire movie (no extras or things you won't bother watching). Even though there is compressing on the part of DVD Shrink if you use the deep scan analysis you're getting (ripping) these files at almost perfect quality. X Copy comes in because the dummy files it creates format the menu system to be able to have it before the actual movie plays.

  14. A less expensive way of doing this has just been released. The tool is DVDStripper.

I haven't used it. I've followed it's development online and according to the beta testers it works well.

I mainly use it to backup the complete disc. I did re-author "The Matrix" with the menu and the movie recently. I tried the whole disc and was dissatisfied with the quality. I apologize if I ruffled any feathers, my way is by far not the only way to do this.

So you basically used TMPGENC to rip the entire fim but after used Shrink to just compress the movie and menu? So what did you use to burn? What happen to the movie extras?
