When I try to use virtual dub to prepare movie for TMPGEnc and I set my video to direct stream copy and my audio to full processing mode I get this message:
The source video stream uses a compression alogorithm which is not compatible with AVI files. Direct stream copy can not be used with this video stream. Is there a way I can change this so it will work. Thanks for any help in advance.![]()

I tried this and it worked. I renamed the files from avi to mpg and they worked perfectly. Thats good for

It sounds like you may have just reversed what someone else had done before (i.e. changed the extension on an MPEG file to .avi)
You probably don't care now - but did you try seeing what gSpot said about your avi file? It will tell you what codecs are used in the file.
Lastly, if your file was really an MPEG - are you sure you need to re-encode it with TMPGEnc? You may just be losing quality for no reason.
cheers,
mcdruid.
