that's called "pixelation" and is probably caused by using inferior media. Use some high quality media....and your problem should be solved. Part of it can be your player too...but if you use higher quality media...chances are your problem will be solved.

what would you recomend for media?
thanx, my player says it supports all types of dvd-/+r/rw media.
thanx again -
Look up your player in the DVD Player section on the left. There may be comments from owners about what works best on your model.
Search your model name/number from this page and look for comments in any existing threads as well.
Even if it supports all "types" it may not like certain brands. Huge databases on this site full of that kind of info.
Good luck. There's no place like 127.0.0.1

I talk from experience.
I'm now using the cute boxes for Verbatim discs. -
Except that Verbatim's quality has gone down too, since they've stopped using Ricoh media exclusively.

Gurm, do you have any info about what the "metal AZ" used by Verbatim is?
Are "DataLife" and "DataLifePlus" only gimmicks or based on something tangible?
P.S: is there anyway to identify which Verbatims are using Ricoh? -
Verbatim never exclusively used Ricoh disks. At least not from what i've read and found from my own experience as well as experience with others. Verbatim disks do use Metal Azo dye which is basically the highest quality dye you can currently use.
The problem is that there is much more that goes into the production process of disks and unfortunately, the QC is medicore at best for most Verbatim manufactured disks. Verbatim uses at least 7 different manufacturers of their media..two of them are extremely reputable... "MCC" Mistubishi Chemical Corp and "TAIYO YUDEN." Unfortunately, you won't know what you've got until you get it and check it with DVDINFO. It's like a box of unbranded assorted chocolate....you just don't know what you've got until you bite it.
Instead of playing games with Verbatim...and trying to hope you get high quality disks....why not just get known high quality disks? If you grab any Memorex or TDK +R 4x disks...they'll be Ricoh and you won't have to guess. At least at this point, that is. -
Thanks for the info, defense.
Would you mind explaining what "QC" is or telling me where I can read about it?
Maybe the poster was misinformed, but I recently read Memorex were changing manufacturer fairly often too. -
