Just received a 100 pack of Ritek G04 from Meritline and immediately
burned several disks at 4X only to find that on my destop DVD (Toshiba SD 3900) they had extreme artifacts and pixellation (sp?). Unwatchable.
I tried them on my computer with PowerDVD XP and they looked fine.
I burned the same files on some old Accu 2X and they looked fine on my Toshiba. I remember reading something a while back when 4X's were just starting to appear that some set top DVD's may have trouble reading disks burned at 4X. Anyone know if this is true or not and if it is true is there any thing that can be done about it? Any patch or firmware update for the set top, maybe?

Burned the disks with Instant DVD on a Sony DRU500A (firmware 2.0g).
DVD player in computer is Liteon 16X

  2. Try burning the Ritek's @ 2x, either it's a media issue or it's a speed issue.

Actually I don't know what it is, I got two dvd players here and one got the pixelation problem, the other one got no problems at all with any disc I give it .

Back to the pixelation thing, I have noticed that the problem apears regardless to what speed the disc is burned at (Both Ritek and Princo discs).

  3. There is a large media/writer report on the website that says what speed to use with what media. Seems most are reliable under 4x only.

  4. Some standalone DVD players don't like disks burnt at 4x. Especially
    old models.

My old Panasonic A350 bought in 1998 don't play 4x burnt disks
correctly. I have to burn the disks at 2x to make them playable
    on the old Panasonic.

My Playstation 2 (version 7) and my Pioneer 350 standalone player
I bought last year can play 4x burnt disks without trouble.
