  1. can anybody please give few recommendations for a good dvd backup prog which is easy to use and still remains reliable. my priorities are :-

    good quality backups
    reliability
    ease of use
speed (as long as it doesnt take 8-12 hrs to backup i dont care )

i am using the nec1300 with the latest official 1.08 fw and windows xp pro with a celeron 800, which has so proved reliable and adequate at least until i try to re encode

  3. Good quality backup is the same whatever the media tape optical or hard disk. arcsoft veritas. few hundred quid. but your work is worth that right? cheaper? ghost or partition magic (copy whole partition if less than 4.3gb)
    Or cheapest microsft backup

  5. In no specific order:

    - DVD2One
    - DVD Shrink v3.0 beta 5
    - Nero Recode
    - CloneDVD
    - DVD95Copy

My favorite in terms of quality and flexibility: DVD Shrink v3.0 beta 5 (guides in my signature).
    It's also free.

    Hi

I've got the NEC1300a and I've been using CloneDVD with AnyDVD running in the background. Great - takes no more that 2 hours at 1-2 speed.

THe only problem was that without updating the 1300a's firmware to herries 1.05 it wouldnt work with CloneDVD it just took one sniff of a blank DVD-R and spat it out . . . ruined.

With the new firmware it runs a treat and works with cheap DVD-R media as well. I buy it from www.dabs.com @ approx £22 for 25 disks including postage and VAT.

garry, I use DVD Shrink 3.0 beta 5. Lots of versitility and fexability. Good transcoder, abilty to split, keep just movie, etc. DVD2One is also very good, but it is not free. Its main advantage is that it is very easy to use, but it has not split capability. Hope this helps.

  10. I think Instant Copy is the best...Its kinda slow but the Q is really good...You can choose to make a 1:1 or just the main movie....Ive done about 150 movies and none of my friend can tell the differance..

  11. DVD2one is fast

    DVD Shrink is handy

CloneDVD cant work with my burner

NeroRecode I see no point of using it

Instant Copy I haven't tried yet but I will next week

CloneDVD will output an iso DVD image file, which you can burn with whatever major burning program you've got that works with your burner.

Instantcopy on the other hand will not output a standard iso. The only option for recording to your HD is their crummy propriety format (pdi) which you then have to run through another program to get an iso (PDI2ISO).

I always burn from image files, never directly from the app.

Yeah, thanks I'm aware of that but I still prefer DVDShrink and DVD2one

I too like burning ISOs with DVD Decrypter

DVD Shrink is awsome and free. DVD Shrink is proof that the gods want us to make backups.
