For DV: DVIO or WinDV. These are the simplist for just a straight data transfer. There are quite a few others that do more and I would refer you to the guides to the left on this website.

  3. It may be worth trying a few programs to see if one works better for the specific hardware/software you use. I tried a few programs to try and capture from my dv camcorder but audio sync would drift. I downloaded screnalyzer, and it worked fine. I have no idea why that program worked when others didn't but at least I found a app that would do the trick.

Do you have a DV camcorder or not? If so, your question has already been answered (DVIO, WinDV, Scenalyzer). If not, you need a capture card.

  7. yes i have a digital video cam corder and what i want to do is capture video to my hard drive, not in DV!, which all the above are about.

i want to put the video on the internet so the file sizes need to be small, you cant get this with DV, thats why i asked ofr a capturing program.

are there any other than wmm?

  8. for your purpose, what you really want to do is transfer the DV using one of the above programs, then maybe use something like Virtualdub to encode to Divx format or whatever you choose to use.

this will give you optimal quality, as it is quite intensive for a pc to capture to a high compression format like Divx straight off, plus with what you want to do you will lose quality, but transferring it digitally will not lose any.

  9. ok, i have tried that but inorder to get a desired size the quality is crap. Are there no other programs i can use to capture but not in DV?

windows movie maker is ok but the file format isnt supported in any editing tools, like virtual dub.
