Interesting question. I doubt it as I would guess that the op system could not be easily modified. Maybe via a hack?
You create your own reality. Interested in media servers and HTPC? Can we talk?

You cant just change the HD... I read this stuff from some forum I just cant remember where... but anyway it's not that simple

There is some wierd filesystem that you cant copy in normal PC to new HD... I'm not sure if they have hacked it...

  4. Panasonic does not seem to want you to upgrade the units. I have a dmr-hs2 and know that many people have tried to replace the hard drive with a bigger one with no success. They have looked at the hardware and software angles. Panasonic did, in japan, have an upgrade for one of their settop units , but i believe it had to be sent in for that.

OK, so you can't upgrade the drive, has anyone come up with a way to just replace the size you have? Then you could install a drive caddy, and just swap drives around for more storage.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

I was thinking the same thing too, until I found out that it would cost over $700 USD!

  8. I think someone found out you could but it would only read 80megs.

You do know you can do the tv recording functions & have pretty much the same exact thing as that e80 with your computer too, use something like showshifter.com

I'm not sure with the e80, but on the hs2 it was tried, just swapping the same size drive for another. The issues I remember had to do with power consumption and that it would reformat a hard drive every time it was installed into the unit. You can go to this web site http://www.thewholewideweb.com/forum/default.asp?CAT_ID=7
it is mainly for dmr-hs2 users but many of the problems/questions also apply to other models of panasonic set top recorders.
