  1. hello,

i'm having problems converting from svcd mpeg2 to dvd using ffmpegX.
the original svcd mpeg2 plays smooth on my mac, but the finished TS_VIDEO file plays very jumpy (stop and starts not very smooth at all)

the orignal file has 44100 Hz so first of all ffmpegx encodes to 48000 Hz witch then leaves me with, a muxed mpeg2 file which also plays very smooth. the info reads like this:

Mux rate 10.08 Mbp ( the orignal file is 2.74Mbp)
est duration reads 13:26:10.39s which is wrong should be 2hours
    aspect ratio 4/3 (TV)
    not interlaced, choma format 4:2:0
    size 480x480 29.97 2.52Mbp
    Audio mpeg layer 2
    224kps 48000Hz stereo no emphasis

i'm using the latest ffmpegX and a older 8b version both produce the same results

    i,ve selected hi bitrate DVD

with the default setting in options

can anyone help sort this out?

  2. Which version of ffmpegX have you used to encode?

  3. i'm using the latest v 0.0.9

  4. while we are on this subject can i ask your advice on another file?

i have a mpeg1 file which i want to encode to dvd. do i choose low bitrate? or use hi bitrate?

the mux rate is 1.41 Mbps
    size 352 x 240 29.97 fps 1.15 Mbps

    audio 224 kbps 44100Hz

    thanx

  5. Low bitrate is more compressed and let you stuff more content into one DVD. High bitrate is less compressed and has a better image quality.

  6. thanx i think i understand but the answer to my other question? when you say disable decode with quicktime, do you mean have nothing sellected? not even decode with mplayer.

i'm still using s/vcd>dvd is this the way to go or should i just encode to hirate dvd from the quick presets? and do it that way?

  7. svcd>dvd is a quick way but your player must support the non-standard svcd-dvd format. Check the player compatibility list to see if it is the case. Alternatively you can re-encode it with one of the DVD presets.

  8. ok major it lookws like encoding the film again, just gonna take a little more time than i hoped

the new version of ffmpegx i've noticed that when encoding to dvd mpeg-2 my screen on my imac will not sleep, were as it did on older versions! this is a really annoying feature that apple seem to like alot but really i cant see the point in myself. i am now using the older version again.

is there any reason for this major? or just a tech hitch? i really hope its the later. because this is the beauty off ffmpegX it worked in the back ground

  9. I didn't add nothing that could affect the iMac sleep. Try the "Open Terminal window" option and see if it goes sleep.

  10. it shuts down ok when the terminal is selected
