  1. Hi can anyone help me please! im trying to convert avi to VCD using TMPGenc encoder.
I have been successfull on a number of times doing this untill recently I have tried encoding some AVI and once compleated there wasn't any Audio sound.
I've checked the properties of the AVI im trying to convert and the audio is at 48K in original files. I know that usually VCD is 44.1 k and that TMPGenc uses this for Mpeg layer 1.

Is there anyway i can get round this??? I tried using Virtual dub to firstly convert the avi file from 48k to 44.1 so I could secondly use TMPGenc to encode as usual.................but the audio & picture sync was out after Virtual dub had save the file as AVI with 44.1 audio!

Can anyone help please or suggest another program which can encode or convert the audio !!
I have tried the pansonic encoder before but didn't very good picture results + out of sync audio!

  2. do you have SSRC installed and set up as your audio engine in TMPGEnc?

You can also use tooLame in there - although apparently the native mp2 audio encoder in TMPGEnc has improved a lot.

You have to go to Option->Environmental setting->Audio

SSRC is then used by TMPGEnc to do the resampling.

  3. chers druid for that I will give it a go!

do you have any tips for ssrc?

  4. you can't change the settings TMPGEnc uses for SSRC - at least not as far as I'm aware.

I have tried to find out if this is possible before, because it's a very neat program.

You can use it as part of BeSweetGUI (or you can use it on the commandline of course!) - it can do two-pass normalisation etc..

In terms of TMPGEnc however, just set it up & use TMPGEnc as normal.

  5. try using dvd2svcd with the avi template. It uses TMPGENC to do the encoding, but automates the process and rules out human error.

  6. once again thanks for the advice!
Can some one tell me if i can use ssrc whilst encoding to mpeg 1 with TMPGEenc?

Do i need to do the audio first then encode for mpeg or can they be both done at the same time?

Any help would be appreciated,,,,,,,,I dont know loads about this!

  8. ok, i've set up ssrc in TMPGENC has the external sample converter in the (environmetal settings / audio engine).

now when i open TMPGENC set file to be created as pal vcd!
next I select the source AVI file(same for both audio/video)
click next , and go to source range + other settings!

go through the other steps and start encoding!
the ssrc page pops up with command line and indicates the audio is being converted fro 48K to 44.1
    next the video encoding starts

result still no sound on the out Mpeg file ??
    Am i doing anything wrong??

Once again thanks for the help

  9. what does gSpot say about your source avi?

can you hear the audio in it if you play it with WMP?

  10. I've not tried gspot but the avi is fine in windows media player

  11. seperate the audio and video and process them independently b4 muxing them.

  12. used g spot for information and apparently I have compatible codec's!

the original file uses mpeg layer 3 for audio! could this be part of the problem

  13. If the audio is VBR (Variable Bit Rate) mp3, this might cause TMPGEnc problems.

As RabidDog says, you could try processing the audio separately.

If an avi's audio stream is giving me problems, I always try opening the whole avi file in GoldWave. You can then 'Save as' a normal 16-bit PCM wav. (I'd probably leave it at 48k sampling rate at that stage with this one).

Then, you can try feeding the wav into TMPGEnc as the audio source for your avi (with SSRC and tooLame set up as the audio engine).

Or, you can process the audio yourself - using BeSweetGUI is probably the simplest way to control SSRC and tooLame outside of TMPGEnc.

You know you're going for 44.1k sampling rate in SSRC (you can make use of the 2-pass normalisation in it as well if you do it this way).

...and then 224kbps Stereo mp2 in tooLame.

Keep listening to your audio file inbetween each stage to make sure you spot any problems (i.e. if it goes silent!)

Then take the video you've already encoded in TMPGEnc, and strip it from the (blank) audio using Files->MPEG tools->Simple Demultiplex. This will take the MPEG-1 file (.mpg), and create a video stream with a .m1v extension, and an audio stream with a .mp2 extension.

You can then combine the video stream that is demuxed, with the audio (mp2) you've created - using Simple Multiplex. Make sure you select MPEG-1 VideoCD as the type if you want to make a VCD with this.

Let us know how you get on with that.

    cheers,
    mcdruid.
