  1. Hi there,

I've just bought this unit and I have some few questions I cannot find an answer: in order to capture MPEG 2 clips...

    1. Is it possible in moviestar to set the CBR capture mode instead of VBR?
    2. Is it possible NOT to have a MPEG file splitted?
    3. Is it possible to choose a bitrate higher than 8MB (let's say 10) ?
    4. Is it possible to change the AUDIO quality ?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Moviestar 5.x is not a very sophisticated product, and has very little config options, good for the newbie, but annoying for those who are getting more sophisticated.

Not that I am aware of, it makes best quality assumptions, which may be different than what you want.

    2. Is it possible NOT to have a MPEG file splitted?
Use a different piece of SW, Hope was next major release would fix the problems, but since the buyout I doubt that will happen

    3. Is it possible to choose a bitrate higher than 8MB (let's say 10) ?
I don't believe so, actually lots of SW maxes out at 8, so that may be more an issue with compatbility than capability.

    4. Is it possible to change the AUDIO quality ?
    I don't believe so.

Finding another piece of SW to use for some/all functions might save you the hassle. For example, after the capture, you can take the MPG files and merge them (TMPGEnc has a MPEG merge function).

  3. I can't believe I can't decide to have a unique file when capturing instead of having more than one file I need to merge later!

Why this? I read that the splitting option is only available with DVC 150 and instead I don't want to use it !!! It is not possible to disable it?

    I can't believe it ...

  4. I think the file splitting was to guarantee compatibility with Win95/98/Me Fat32, where as the large files could only be written/read NT/2000/XP using NTFS. You figure it should autodetect, or allow customization, but it assumes smaller files size needed (probably was easier to code that way???)

Can the DVC-150 use any other SW (like XP Movie Maker 2) to capture the video? I have the Hollywood DV* Bridge and can use whatever SW. I heard the DVC 100/150/200 is locked into Moviestar 5.x for capture. If so that is one of the reason some people have avoided Dazzle lately (before the sale)

  5. Currently the only program I'm able to use with DVC 150 is Moviestar.
I have also seen that Pinnacle is updating Pinnacle Studio 8 in order to support also this unit. Perhaps it will work also with it!
