  1. I'm using a ATI AIW 8500DV to capture in MPEG-2 format. I'm capturing from TV and I want to get rid of the commercials. Is there a proggie that will do that? I'm hoping to find one that works like VDUB. I did try the VDUB mod but when I did what I did it wanted to save it in .avi format. I want to keep it in MPEG-2 so that I can burn it to DVD with my DVD burner I just bought. Let me know if this can be done. If it can't then I'l just return the DVD burner and cap what I need in XVID

Read about frameserving to Tmpgenc through Virtualdub. Guides are listed under each program.

Read the start of the Guides to get a general idea and know what other small programs you'll need, then move to here:

    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

You're welcome. You can ignore and skip over the avisynth stuff for now. Much more complicated. Just follow the directions for using virtualdub and you'll be able to do what you want.

add- no - frameserving will let you edit your mpg in Vdub and send it directly to tmpgenc. to re-encode without the commercials.

It lets you skip the step of saving to avi.

Cutting commercials is just editing. :c)

There are several ways to do that without re-encoding.
    TMPGenc cut & merge.
    Womble MPEG2VCR
It has been reported that TMPGenc DVD Author can edit
a loaded MPEG file before the authoring step. I keep meaning to try
    that but haven't yet.

I capture MPEG2 with ATI and edit with MPEG2VCR.
Fast easy , and hasn't screwed up yet.

The TMPGenc DVD Author edits MPEG2 very well.

No, Frameserving is NOT the same as editing out commercials, but will give you the same results in the end.

I would use Ulead Video Studio 6 or 7 to Edit out the commercials for your Mpeg2 files. Real easy and real fast. 8)

  9. I actually have Ulead Video Studio 7 SE. It came with my burner. The bad thing is my monitor is so old that the only res it handles is 800 X 600 =P
In order to run Video Studio 7 se I need to have a higher resolution. It will not let me open that program up. LOL. I'm gonna borrow a flat panel tonight and get to work on getting rid of commercials in .mpeg and joining the file back together like vdub does with .avi. There is an Incredible Hulk marathon on the Sci Fi channel the week of the 20th and I wanna cap the series in DVD format and get rid of the commercials and any other useless stuff. Thanks for all the advice guys. Josh
