  1. Since buying this DVD recorder about 3 months ago I have had very little success with burning DVD's. Using Memorex, Sony and FujiFilm DVD+R and DVD-R disks, along with Nero Express, DVD Decryptor and Easy DVD Creator for burning software, I have been getting approximately 1 successful burn out of every 10 attempts.

I have the unit connected through an external IDE drive and USB2.0.

Please offer any assistance that you can.

  2. Use TDK or Ritek or even the CompUSA brand DVD-R Media.
    Don't use Easy DVD Creator.
Nero is OK however IMO RecordNow Max is better for DVDR burning.
DVD Decryptor is good but I prefer SmartRipper.
I would connect the drive as an internal drive as it was designed to be.
Also run ForceASPI just to be sure you don't have an ASPI problem.

  3. Thanks, I actually use NERO I only used the others to try and see if they helped. I have not found Record Now Max easy to use. I tested some TDK disks but they would not play in my car DVD player, only the Sony's will.

I will probably test the internal install but I can't leave it there since it's a shared resource between some different sites.

  4. H Tony,

I have the same Sony Extenal DVD burner and touch wood, I have had no issues with the same. I must have burnt about 50 DVDs so far and have had 3 or 4 coasters, thats it. Heres what I use for backing up DVDs:

    DVD Decrypter-Decrypting
    DVD Shrink-Compressing
    CopytoDVD-For burning DVD

Media used so far: FUJI DVD-R (works on my Toshiba DVD Player)

    Hope this helps.
