Anybody know of some brands/models that are capable of recording dolby 5.1? The model I was looking into the panny e80 does not (no optical in).

The philips dvr90 was supposed to have had it. It was at CES this year and supposed to be out this quarter. However, it isn't here and I haven't heard any positive news about it coming.
You can do a search for it here. There was also a long thread over at the www.dvdplusrw.org site.
It seems to me that if a machine can convert an analog audio signal to digital and keep time with the video, why couldn't it skip the conversion step and record it digitally? Standalone CD recorders for your stereo have optical ins.
I'm curious if this ommision is more along the lines of copy protection issues vs technological ones. -
i havent been able to find any models which do this or ones that are coming out none mention it....kinda sucks...
