  1. I have an ATI 8500DV card and wonder how to convert their .vcr files to mpeg 2. Supposedly by using their media library, you can right click and do this but that is not an available option to me. ATI is no help.
    TIA

  2. I had this problem a couple years ago. I think Mainconcept has a converter for .VCR files. I used a trail version but can't remember where I got it from.

  3. I assume you are using your 8500dv to capture from vhs/tv. If so you can set it to record in standard mpeg or avi format. Look in the capture guides for some of Lordsmurfs how-to's. They are most infomative. Good luck.

I have determined ATI VCR format is useless, and mainly appears to be for the Tivo-like function of the card.

MPEG or AVI is the way to go.

Supposedly, some versions of the Media Library found in some versions of MMC (I think it was the 7.x versions) would convert VCR to MPEG in a few minutes by right-clicking on it. But I never had a need, so I never confirmed it.

  5. Yea, I found out that it's a crappy way to format video. I will say however, that when recording a tv show at high quality, I get excellent results. Its just that whenever I record tv on demand, the results are poor.
    Thanks for the help.
