I think we should have a sports forum...a place where we can all go to discuss recent games for any sport. Anyone agree?

No.
Watching sports can be done by anyone with eyeballs,
no guides or help is required. -

The computer one was a great idea, I bet half of 'off topic' was computer related but sport seems to be infrequent.
How about a 'crap topics only' forum, which only me and Devanshu could post in
From a personal point of view I bet tonnes of members (male and female) would be glad I could only post in one section

Devanshu, did you know people thought the computer forum I suggested was too off topic to be a new forum?
-
If Devanshu gets a "sports forum" I want a "Red Dwarf forum".
An "aerobics exercise forum" would be nice too.
Oh, and an "Oprah forum."
Thank you.

I would also like the title, "Baldrick Appointed Moderator" so I will get the respect I deserve....and possibly a little fear....that would be quite nice, too.Don't squat with yer spurs on. -
Baldrick: When I can get hdtv I may add it...(probably 5-10 years away)...
Wow, that is surprising Baldrick. Really that far away in Sweden? You create your own reality. Interested in media servers and HTPC? Can we talk? -
No need for it when you have got PAL
-
A camcorder or a digital camera section will be nice...

But unfortunately, the majority of this forum is made up of geeks and misfits that really don't care too much for sportsJust what is this reality thing anyway? -

At the risk of being admonished by the moderators, not to mention Baldrick, I really think a ATSC/HDTV/HDTV recording type forum would be great. I understand that there are MANY Europeans on this forum where PAL is the standard. That being said, ATSC is well on its way to being the standard in the US. There is a least one PVR for HDTV with more coming out soon. There are computer media center applications for playing and recording--not on your computer monitor, but your HDTV display. Maybe there just is not enough interest here? Our is it that there is no DVD type disk device to record and play? Any comments? Anyone???

Thanks for responding Baldrick. Right now, you use a HDTV capture card and capture the transport stream to your HDD. It takes about 8-10 gig to store an hour. You can then play back to your HDTV from the HDD through your capture card. I believe (this is one reason for a discussion forum) you can then encode the transport stream to an mpeg format then author to DVD? Of course it would no longer be HDTV, but just good quality video. Or, maybe the transport stream could be burned as a data DVD to be played back on your computer? This would only be about 1/2 hour of video! Sounds like SVCD! Are also read somewhere here that the FCC wants to "chip" decoders in the future (with an anticopy feature), so now is the time to get your capture card. Although a few years away, the US will no longer broadcast NTSC in a few years. Right now, TV is broadcast in BOTH ATSC and NTSC. The idea is that after the conversion is complete, the FCC--Federal Communications Commission--will auction off the freed up spectrum space to the highest bidders for cell phones, broadband, and other data services. If people are not interested now in ATSC, they will need to be soon.
Edit: Market penetration in the US is currently low, about 5%. Some of the projections I have read show that jumping to about 10% after this Christmas, and about 20% by the end of 2004. 2005 is the year NTSC is supposed to be phased out, but few think this deadline will be met.You create your own reality.
