  1. Could anyone be so kind as to give me, or point me in the direction of a place that lists the sizes of Jewel Case covers and DVD case covers etc...
When I have got a DVD cover from various site, it tells me that when I save it, it will be the right size. But they never are!!!

e.g. in the fron of a CD case, the cover is about 5 inches by 5 inches...

Has anyone got the exact dimentions??

    Thanks

I don't see my ruler anywhere. Can you measure a CD/DVD cover you have laying around?

That would depend on your graphics program & printer settings.

I'm not going to look up exact sizes for you but.............. try UndercoverXP

It automatically sizes the graphic for you. Just set your printer correctly for paper size, etc.
    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

You can print them out any size you want, depending upon the software you use to print them. So far, all of the covers I have downloaded, I have printed with HP Photoimpression 3.0. When I print them landscape, the largest size that they will print without further manipulation is about 10.6 inches wide by 7.1 inches high, at about 97 dpi. These are all covers from the websites that say they will be the correct size when downloaded.
This size fits pretty well inside the clear plastic of a regular DVD case.

  6. CoverXP is a good choice and if you want the size in pixels it would be 3240x2175

I bought one of these just so I could print them really big when they said they need to be full size.

And they fit very nicely inside the case at full size.

    Here's a hint or 2:

The disk is about 4.75 inches (12cm) across.

    A ruler is cheap.

And to prove I am not a complete ass, I measured one and it was nearly, exactly 12cmx12cm, the same size as the disk, just square.

Of course I could be giving you false measurements just to be an idiot, it is my name after all, you better measure one to make sure

Of course we all assumed you mean the 12cm disks The smaller ones are 8.5 or 8.6x8cm and the disks are 8cm across.

This info comes from the website DVDCoverArt.com

At 300 dpi, these are the recommended sizes for each keepcase:

all keepcases use the same size cover for the front and back (1535 x 2175 pixels), the only thing that changes is the spine width.

    single: 3240 x 2175 pixels (spine: 170 pixels)

    double: 3305 x 2175 pixels (spine: 235 pixels)

    triple (slim): 3384 x 2175 pixels (spine 314 pixels)

    4/5 disc: 3508 x 2175 pixels (spine: 438 pixels)

    6/7 disc: 3661 x 2175 pixels (spine: 591 pixels)

    ThinPak single: 3150 x 2175 pixels (spine: 80 pixels)

    ThinPak double: 3172 x 2175 pixels (spine: 102 pixels)

    Fox 5-Star Collection, single width: 3240 x 2175 pixels (spine: 170 pixels)

    Fox 5-Star Collection, double width: 3305 x 2175 pixels (spine: 235 pixels)

Columbia Tristar Special Edition: 3240 x 2175 pixels (spine: 170 pixels)

MGM Special Edition: 3240 x 2175 pixels (spine: 170 pixels)
I suggest you go check out the website as they have templates you can download.

  11. Does that printer have a cutter built in? One reason I like the big Rolan's Hifi Camjet series since it can print and cut the liners for me automaticaly. Its a pain to flip over 50" wide material over!

If you want exact measurment try any of the mfg of cases. For exmple NexPak { Thinkpak } have exact measurments for their packing { in metric } on their site.

It does have a built in cutter, but I can't use it when I print my covers in canvas so I have to use a highspeed diegrinder to cut the canvas off.

Is it so damn hard to take a cover that you already own, and grab a ruler and measure it? WTF? If you don't have a measuring device, scan the POS and turn the rulers on in your photo editing software! What is this world coming too? This one and the one down in OT about not being able to print cover because the printer will not print to the edge. With education like this, Jack Valenti will never get his message across

  13. Never tried a blade through canvas. That would be one big mess! Fun to watch one crank out sticker! Esp small one!

Yep. I agree. Measure a few, average and use that. Took the measurment from nexpak jamed its spects in Photoshop and went from there. On others just measured a few, got an average, adjusted for the style case I get and bingo. Thats it.

Wonder if any one would read a FAQ on doing a cover with basic tools?

I'm pretty sure there is a guide for covers. Not positive because I haven't read it, but there is definitely a guide that involves covers.

I feel kind of stupid admitting this, but for several months when I started making DVDs and printing covers for the boxes, my dvd covers never quite fit the width of the box. Try as I would, they would always come out about 1/4" too small. I tried about 5 different softwares. Finally one day it hit me, and I tried printing on a legal size sheet of paper. I got a perfect cover. My printer was shrinking the picture to fit within it's print boundaries which were just slightly smaller than the cover width. I use a little piece of freeware now to do the printing. It's called UnderCover XP.
