  1. Is there a way to cut the black bars from the top and bottom of a divx movie, without demuxing and such. Any help would be appreciated.

No, you must reencode the entire movie to remove the black bars.

  3. u can get rid of the black bars (if it is a widescreen movie) by using TMPGEnc, and making the widescreen movie into full-screen

  7. This seems awfully similar to the problem I have. I've got a 16:9 movie that I convert to a XVCD. It generates black bars on top and the bottom of the movie (with TMPGEnc). I want those bars to not appear when I play the movie on a 16:9 TV. Is there a way (the source is 16:9)?

To nightwing7: I tried it with full-screen, but: with TMPGenc there are still small black bars on each side, is that just in the preview?

  8. TMPG will not automatically put in those black bars. The size of your output video and video placement location must be different. Make sure they're both 480x480. Obviously, output video size is on first page of options. The other thingamabob is on the "advanced" tab. Try "center:custom size" and setting it to 480...
