  1. Hi Everybody!

i'm trying to back-up my legally purchased r2 version of Matrix reloaded and am having problems with IFOEDIT. I load VTS_01.IFO into IFOEDIT and tell it to strip to two DVDR's. I set the split point to chapter 14 (just b4 the Burly Brawl) because the movie is a bit stagnant before but motors after it and I thought at some stage after I'd laughed at the rave/orgy scene and Morpheus's speech enough times, I might want to watch the movie from just this point and wouldn't have to swap disks 8).

Anyway, when IFOEDIT has done its job, I adjust the start point of disk two to hit straight into the movie and this works a charm, but there is a problem with disk one that I'm flummoxed with. When you try to play it in IFOEDIT it simply says that it has enountered a navigation error and playback stops (and this is b4 I've tried playing around with it!). I cannot get the movie to play at all and have burned a couple of coasters trying.

Has any kind, knowledgeable IFOEDIT guru type tried backing up this movie and encountered any similar problems and would be willing to help someone in the same boat?

Any help on this matter would, as always, be much appreciated.

    Thanks for reading anyways

Have you tried playing it in anything other then Ifoedit?

  3. Yup, my pioneer DV717 DVD player for one after I burned a copy of it. That player will practically play a chocolate biscuit as long as its authored properly, but no joy to be found there, I'm afraid . PowerDVD will play it but that bugger will play anything, doesn't seem to need IFO's. I'm trying to make a back-up that will play in a stand alone player (Much nicer to watch these things on the couch in front of the TV, isn't it?). Pulling my hair out at the moment. can you suggest any thing

  4. Hey C'mon folks! Am I the only person trying to back-up this fisk who's had a problem with IFO edit???? :P

  5. Probably because you have a movie that's not in stores yet. there is a guide on the left that should help you with splitting that movie with ifoedit.

It's only been 3 hours, relax.

And he did say that it is out in Europe, so it is a legal disk. I'll take that as fact 'cause I'm too lazy to look it up, and I don't really care. It comes out in what, a week here in the US? Close enough.

I don't really do any back ups, but have you tried any of the other DVD tools. What about Autoshrinkiso that was posted a few days ago? Just get the tools listed, they are all freeware too:

    https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=182561

Maybe that will help, maybe not.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  7. Sorry folks, I didn't realise that Reloaded wasn't released in the States yet (it came out in Europe on 10th October :P ). I have used the guides (Doom9 on dvd9 to 2 dvd5) to back-up most of my disks and Reloaded is the the ONLY disk that I have come across with this problem.

As for the other software you guys have mentioned, I always find that simplicity comes at the cost of functionality. I wanted to split the disk at chapter 14 for the reasons I mentioned above and wipe out the copyright warning that is played at the end of the movie (or after chapter 13 in my case) and keep the menus etc. I believe IFOEDIT (though a bitch to use) offers more flexibility than DVDshrink, FAB, Instantcopy or CloneDVD etc. I wondered if someone else had come across the same problem (ie. IFOEDIT ripped disk 1 not playing) but as it hasn't been released yet, I shall sit tight and watch this space until 10/14/2003 and wait to see if any of my US cousins have the same problem.

Until then I wish you all well and would like to thank everyone above for giving their time and assistance.

  8. BobbyBlaze:

Did you do a "get sectors" on disc 1?

What may be happening is that there is a .IFO/VOB file that is required - hence the "navigational error". Check the "first play" in the VIDEO_TS.IFO. I would guess that the disc is trying to find a title that is no longer on disc 1 - because of the split. You shouldn't really have this problem if you have copied all the relevant IFO/VOB files to disc 1. You should make sure that the DVD menu files are on disc 1. BTW, if you play the original disc, the ifoedit DVD player will tell you which titles are getting played.

Can't really help you that much until you tell exactly what you did.

    Hope that helps.

  9. Thanks Trust_No_1,
I did the Get_VTS_Sectors thing but still had the same "Illegal DVD navigation command encountered". The IFO's that IFOEDIT creates are bogus and won't allow the DVD to be played I know that you may think that I am doing something wrong, but trust me, I have backed up many DVD's without this problem ever happening. (You'll see what I mean when the DVD comes out stateside). However, I have now solved the problem and am happy to share the solution with all my friends at DVDRhelp.

Split two 2 DVDr's with IFO edit. There is only a VIDEO_TS.IFO and VTS_01.IFO present on the DVD and these are copied across with IFOEDIT. Change the start point of disk 2. Get VTS Sectors etc. Disk2 should be good to go.

Now take the disk1 folder and delete all the IFO's and VIDEO_TS.VOB (this is the copyright warning that jumps in after the main movie is played which we DO NOT want anyway). Take the folder with the VTS_01_xx.VOBs into DVDFab and tell it to recreate IFO's. The DVD will now play straight into the movie and the great thing is that the menu's are still intact if you hit the menu button and the warnings that abruptly jump in straight after the first half of the movie are gone. Burn and enjoy!!!

Dude, why don't you just use DVD Shrink? Nothing beats it!!!!!!!!!

  11. Can dvd shrink let me keep menu's, select disk break, jump immediately into the film on second disk and delete copywrite warnings? If so, sign me up now

  12. Disc One (main movie+simple menu) is less than 6GBG why don't you just shrink it down to 4.37?
Disc Two (extras,...) is 3.6GB (my favourite boxer on the pic)
You stop me again whilst I'm walking and I'll cut your fv<king Jacob's off.

  13. I'm sure come Tues/Wed (10/14-15) that you'll get a lot more responses. That is when reloaded gets released in the U.S.

Bobby, you can do whatever you want with DVD Shrink. If you want the movie to start at a certain point on the 2nd disc, just re-author the whole movie, take 1/2 and pull it onto the first disc, and take the other 1/2 and put it on the second disc. BAMN!!!!!!

  15. Hi Tompika!
The reason I don't compress the image size down is the fact that I am a bit of a Superbit man, myself. I watch DVD's on a CRT projector on a screen 112 inches in diameter that is perfectly capable of showing up every beauty mark as well as every blemish. Switching DVD's once during a film is a perfectly acceptable trade-off in return for PERFECT video reproduction.

However, everyone's entitled to their own point of view and if you can see little or no difference on a compressed disk and like to watch a movie with no interruptions (no copyright warnings anyway, that's for sure) then go in peace brother
