Just purchased a Plextor 708 (internal) and it takes about 40 mins to burn a DVD.
Same time at 4X setting and 2X.
My understanding it should take about 15mins at 4X.
2.6Ghz machine 750mb RAM. Tried different media brands including the blank that came with it and all just as slow.
Anyone had this before.
Thanks

Make sure the drive is running in DMA mode in the device manager under IDE ATA controllers. Also is the drive in the master slot on the cable? One last thing is to try some different media, good quality, you never mentioned the brand. There just may be something wrong with the drive itself.

That's it!
Wasn't set to DMA.
Thanks, I can put my hair back in now...
Burnt 3.2 gig in 11 minutes -
hi - am new to dvd-burning and am having similar - what appears to be "bottleneck" - problem with burn speed. thanks to jd, am aware there is DMA setting, but there's a second box indicating "current transfer rate" is "PIO only" mode or something. am using Nero6 with 2.4GHz P4 512MB RAM from a 7200rpm HD and so far, 44% of a 4.5GB burn has taken 33minutes....seems like forever......help
