with some files i first though it was just avi but now i see it also is mpeg, as i double click my computer plain and simple turns off. I dont know what could be causing this. Lets say the file is corrupted or bad that still doesn't explain for my computer turning off. Anyone with any ideas.

I would check your memory module or substitute a known good one. If that's what is causing your problem, it will start to happen anytime you access any memory intensive program.

delacruz,
Do you have all the windows updates? Are you sure you don't have a virus, worm, or trojan. If you're not sure go here for a free scan of your computer. http://housecall.trendmicro.com/
Are these the only files this happens on? How long after double clicking does the computer turn off? Is is immediate or does it take some time?
If you have a new video card you might try using XP's restore to go back to the previous version of the video card if you still have it. -
yes i am sure i dont have a virus and i dont have any windows updates so ima get busy on that. Yes it only happens with video files after about 1 secound after double clicking on the video file the computer just restarts. The computer is brand new (custom made) ive had no problems with the computer but this. I have a 2.6 PV HT CPU, intel board d865perl, albatron 5200 video card, centron 512 MB DDR333,maxtor HD, windows XP professional.

good memory huuu, well i try putting my memory in dual channel memory and that will not work. My computer will not start up. And no im not overclocking. There is sometimes when i play any type of video format that i can only hear the audio and a blank video screen. That goes on and off whenever it feels like it.
