  1. I've been in video production for 18 years but just now getting into DVD. Just bought the Philips DVDR75 to archive a lot of our old footage and to jump start our intro into DVD's. Basic question...I can record an edited program to the 75. How best to take the VIDEO_TS folder and use our own startup menu's instead of the default Philips without having to re-encode the whole thing? Best methods, Best software, etc ??? Does this question even make sense....?

If you want to have clips, films or anything like that (not music) on a dvd you'll need to have it in mpg then convert to .vob with tmpg dvd author then use something like nero 6.0.0.11 to burn it with. Good luck, write back saying if this works alright. Neil :P

Do a search for "vob to mpg". You need to extract any video/audio streams from the vobs in that Video_TS folder, (converting them back to mps), remux the streams, re-join and then Author.

Try the Guides on the left. Very helpful. :c)

If you have or find an editing program that can accept the vobs as input, you can skip the extraction/demux step.

    There's no place like 127.0.0.1

DVDLab will import VOBs directly. And then you can make a menu

  5. Thanks All-
We have used TMPGEnc quite a bit but wanted to cut the 8-10 hour encode times down. We were hoping that by using the Philips DVDR75 to encode in real time- we then could just use some program to to import the files and then use our own front end menu. I'll check out DVDLab and see if that works...

    Blessings-
