  1. Have quite a few (legal) .wmv files on my hard drive files I'd like to author and burn. Seems very few authoring packages support this directly. Ulead DVD Workshop, DVDLab, Tmpgenc Plus - none of these will load a .wmv file. Roxio VW5PE will, but top menu isn't readable for some reason and s/w so unstable I'd really prefer something better. I'm still on Win 98 so that limits my options.

I've been burned by "consumer" s/w before, so I don't want to pay for something until I try it...

    Any ideas?

    Thanks, David

That's because two of those are authoring programs - not editors.

Ulead Video Studio can import wmv and convert, You can try a trial version.

You could try frameserving from Virtual Dub 1.3c (see Tools) to TMPGENc. It supports .asf so it may support your .wmv files. That is how I would do it.

Actually TNPGEnc+ will import and convert WMV directly, are you sure you are not referring to TMPGEnc DVD Author (which won't).

  5. to Gees - thanks for the tip on UVS vs. Workshop. I'll try VS and see if it works for me

To: jtommyj, sorry, but I don't know what frameserving is. To the extent possible I'd like to get to drag and drop within the program, and not manually convert each file. I can probably fit 10 files on one DVD.

I'm lookin' for easy, thought I admit I'm killin' myself finding it.

Keep Workshop - if you can afford it. Gives you many more options at the authoring stage.

But VS can take you from conversion to authoring a disc with some basic menu templates.

    Enjoy.

    And - you're welcome :c)

PS - don't expect too much out of those wmv files. It won't be the quality you see on DVDs.
