Sony DRU-500A, won't burn at more than 1x!!

I have had the DRU-500A for about 8 months....I have had no problems until I installed XP about 2 months ago. It has the SP1 and all that jazz...the weird thing is, my +RW's will still burn at 2.4x but my Accu 2x will only go at 1x....when I was running Win98 they did 2x all the time, no problem. I don't know what to do!! I got firmware 2.0g or whatever and it made no difference. Anyone else having this problem??

its your firmware the newer version won't let you burn them at 2x you need like 1.0g to burn at 2x i coud send it to you if you don't have it.

Yeah, my accus went back to 1x too....nuts.

So you think you can use the old firmware? 1.0g ?

yes i had the same problem buring those accu dvd-rs well actually i use 1.0f miss tpyed it earlier

When I went from 1.0f to 2.0f my burn speeds on the Accu DVD-Rs went from 2x to 1x. HOWEVER, I gained greater compatibility with playing them in my DVD-ROM. I used to have a lot of read errors (cyclic redundancy check) in trying to read in my DVD-ROM drive the data discs that I created in my DRU-500a. Also, I use to have a lot of failed burns using Fuji DVD+Rs. That problem went away with 2.0f. So all in all, the lost of burn speed on my Accu'swas well worth the gain in greater compatability.

latest firmware for this drive is 2.0g out a few days ago...

We're talking about it red lion & it drops the speed to 1x...
