Hi, all
I'm trying to produce a dvd using captured home analog tapes.
Using Premiere 6.5
Basically i capture 3 hours of video and get like 40GB of full nonstop AVI file.
For creating DVD i would like to split the one large AVI into 15 minute parts (for chapters)
And i split them in Premiere, then i have to re-export the split files and re-Render spending 3-6 hours just for waiting to capture and waiting.
Any way to avoid Re-Render AVI part? I can live with capturing 3 hours part. But re-Rendering is just ridiculous.
So anybody now any fast way to split AVI's?
I'm not using any compression.

You don't split files to create chapters. You need to convert that avi to an mpg, then set chapter (reference points) in the DVD authoring software.
Best to have a read up on things before proceeding. You are considering making a lot of extra work and potential headaches for yourself.
Try the Guides. There's no place like 127.0.0.1

I found this helpful guide
https://www.videohelp.com/virtualdubedit.htm
This saves me dozens of hours. I have like 30 analog tapes to capture and edit, pheew.
Thanks for the suggestion. -
Yes. That's a good guide :c) But it's not the guide or process I'd recommend for you.
What I said in my post was - you do not have to split or cut that big avi at all. Not for creating chapters.
You need a guide for converting from avi to DVD ready mpg.
The chapters are created in DVD authoring software on one (or more) continuous video file(s). The chapters do not need to be separate video files. They are just markers that say where the chapter starts within that continuous video.
Start with the Convert section (avi to DVD). Then move to Author and look for info on making chapters. There's no place like 127.0.0.1

Create the MPEG2 video file of the whole 3 hours. Good overnight job that one.
Extract the WAV sound from the AVI file 16bit 48Mhz for DVD. Or if you have space problems MPEG encode it. Another job that will take a few minutes.
Now using your authoring software (again for me the TMPGEnc Author) pull this file in.
Many packages have an option to auto create chapters at fixed time intervals, or you can scan through the image and put the chapters where you want them. - Add Chapter to current frame option in TMPG.
If you don't want the whole file on the disk then you also chose the start and end point in the authoring software.
Then put menu titles etc on your file and create.
