With the new OS version Panther due to be released soon, does anyone have any ideas or thoughts if existing DVD backup programs will coexist nicely?
As of now I'm using the below, with absoluetly no problems.
DVDBackup
DVD2ONEX
TOAST TITANIUM
I get a little timid in upgrades, especially major ones like Panther.
I'll also keep an eye on apple's forums in near future.
What's everyone take on this. Do you like to keep updating to newest, just released versions, risking something not working like you are used to?
I'm still running the original release of DVD2OneX. Really didn't see a need to get the latest version because everything is working great. I also didn't make leap to Toast 6.
Would love some of forum members opinions on upgrades and how theyy deal with making the leap!
Thanks,
Brian

there is always a risk when updating a system, but this is not just a simple update like say 10.2.6 to 10.2.8
this is like going from 10.1 to 10.2!
so do these apps work?
Im told yes by those with a developers copy.
original release of DVD2OneX
The improvements on this are are astounding since its 1st OSX release.
If you are worried, do like you said, wait and see what people say on the apple forum, or even here..
then update if you want.
there is no specific need to update if you dont need the update. Obviously there was a reason they put out 10.3 (in addition to selling a product) the system will be better than 10.2
and with how great 10.2 is I cant wait for it to be out. Im updating the day my order comes in -
I dont have developers copy of panther, but i believe you could just move the preferences (DVD2oneX.plist) from your 10.2 home/library/preferences to the panther equivalent.
let me know -
i tried, it didnt work. they need to fix that bug.

I'm expecting Panther any day now, but you really should upgrade progs on a regular basis, I updated DVD2One and watched it slash about 40% of the time off! Most (I hope) developers test their products on the latest systems, but remember, BACKUP, AND BACKUP FREQUENTLY!
Just in case....I've got a nice 20 gig partition waiting for Panther, but everything else is safely stored and ready in case there's glitches. -
I went in and edited the serial number and name, and it still didnt work, says its the wrong order of name and serial.

Worked fine for me on my new 2x2GHz G5 running Panther 7B85. I just copied my dvd2onex prefs from my old Panther install (already had DTOX 1.2) on my G4 to my new Panther install on the G5. Either way, your name and serial should still work, and if it's not, send an email to the developers, who are very good about addressing issues like this. All the other programs mentioned work perfectly. In fact, I have yet to find an app that doesn't work in Panther (and that doesn't work a lot better and more responsively). I do stay on top of all the latest versions of all my apps, though.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."
