  1. Hey all, I've captured 2 spidey live action eps from my VHS tapes to MPEG format. Each file size is about 2.3GB in size. So in DVDit, I want to have two menus, one for each episode on the disk. I set up the menu and created 6 chapter points and a button to play the whole episode. I dragged each chapter point from the timeline onto the menu and then linked the movie to the "play" button. So . . . I've got the first menu for the first ep done. Problem is it says my project size is over 12GB!!!. What am I doing wrong?! I assumed that each chapter point represents a "bookmark" of sorts, but it appears that it needs to copy the movie multiple times?! That's the only reason I can think that it is so large. Anyone have any suggestions or am I just interpreting the various tutorials incorrectly?

  2. I would guess 2 things are going on here.

The first is that your video is not dvd-compliant. Therefore DVD-it wants to re-encode your video, using whatever its current settings are. These are probably a high bitrate CBR, so this will probably increase the size greatly.

The second is that DVD-it (AFAIK) only supports PCM audio, which is uncompressed. Your current mpegs probably contain mp2 audio, which is compressed. Therfore DVD-it will uncompress the audio, also taking up much more space.

Solutions: Well, you could re-capture, ensureing your captur setup was dvd compliant, or you could re-encode using TmpGenc, or CCE, or mainconcept. That would fix the video problem. As to the audio problem, if you want to use compressed audio you will need a different authoring program.

BTW, mp2 audio is not supported by all DVD players, especially ones sold in N. America. All Players will support Ac3 or PCM though.
