My apologies if this post turns up twice I think I forgot to enter anything in the subject field last time.
I am new at this forum caper as well.
I am using:
DVDShrink 3.0 Beta 5.
ConeDVD
Win 98se, Me and XP (depends which system I booted to).
I am new to this entire DVD burning caper and I have encountered a problem that you expert guys may be able to help me with.
I have made back ups of a of about 10 of my movies using DVDShrink and burning with CloneDVD with no problems.
I find a DVD compressed to fit onto a 4.7 gig disc is usually acceptable quality wise.
But when I tried to back up my copy of The Italian Job (original 1969 version) I encountered this problem.
DVDShrink will rip the files to hdd ok, the files will play from the .INFO file perfectly using Power DVD. The whole thing is there including all the menus etc.
I can burn the files ok using CloneDVD to -r, +r or rw.
On my stand alone player, or on my pc, the –r or +r disc plays as far as the select language screen then goes back to the player intro screen with the message “Data Error”
This also happens with the rw version, (rw won’t play on my domestic player, but will on my pc), the same thing happens. Either on the pc or the player, it fails at that point, the difference on the pc is that it freezes PowerDVD which can only be shut down with the 3 finger salute and the close program window.
The VOB files from the discs can be played separately and appear to be ok. Looking at the burned discs in explorer and all the files seem ok.
In the end after making the –r and +r coasters, I re authored in DVDShrink from the commercial disc removing everything except the main movie and that burned and played ok, better quality too as it did not need compressing.
I would like to know though if anyone knows what the problem was. I can’t figure it out.
Thanks.
