  1. I am converting some VHS tapes to .mpg
using PCTV Vision (Pinnacle) which is
software that came with my capture
card. I would assume it does everything
automatically but maybe I am missing
something. It seems that part of the
converted VHS speeds up here and there
when viewing converted .mpg. Actually, the more
VHS tape I convert...the longer the speeding
    up lasts.
Also, I know VHS quality is not great but is there
anyway to improve before just converting.
    Thanks!

  2. It's sounds to me like you may need a Time Base Corrector (TBC). I had this same problem, but I would also lose audio sync as well. This was caused by unstable video caused by dropouts, wrinkles and/or tracking errors.

Once I added a TBC between the VCR and the video card input, the problems went away. TBCs are not cheap, but you could probably pick one up on ebay for $100-200

Have you tried Virtual Dub. If you don't want to, you may want to look into a time-based corrector to make sure you receive the video signal exactly when you are supposed to.

  4. Stay the hell away from products like that!

They will only give you a endless headacke

I have tried several solutions and the most stabile is canopus advc 50.

I capture over 250hours of video each year and i am verry happy with canopus.

It converts the video to DV and that's it.

No audio out of sync, jumpy video or any problems at all.

I higly recommend it, but if you dont capture that many hours of video then it would be cheaper if you could fix the pinnacle.

TBC corrector may solve the problem, but i would rather spend my bucks on a advc 50.

    Good Luck!

  5. Hey Tommyknocker,
I have Virtual Dub but how would I go about
    doing this?
What do I run through Virtual Dub: the file
BFEORE Pinnacle converts it to .mpg?
And what exactly do I do?
    Thanks!
