  1. My car head unit is happy to play an MP3 CD.

I have made a number of discs with a number of albums on each.

However, each disc puts the songs in name order rather than track order. Some of the tracks mix into the next track to seem like one continuous flow - but obviously being in name order, this doesnt sound great!!

I have used XPs basic compile thing and right-clicked in each folder (album) and arranged in track order rather than name, however they always revert back?!

Nero also puts them in name order GRRR, how can I do it please clever chappies!??

    Thanks

I'm not sure what you do exactly, by why not rename them numerically?

    01, 02, 03..............

  3. Looking for a simple way to click 'burn in track order'

7 or 8 albums per CD
    3 or 4 CDs... That's a lot of renaming!!

    Thanks for the help though!!

Well - good luck. Maybe an idea for next time when you make the mp3s.

Album number, then sequential track numbers

Gotta ask - what exactly is a "head unit"? :c*

  5. but there is no "track order" on data CDs. the order of the files is determined by whatever software is reading the disc. for example in windows you can sort the files by name, size, date modified, etc.

the only way around it is to name the files 01, 02, .. 10, 11, 12 etc. then your unit will play them in the correct order.

  6. Head Unit is basically a car radio, named that coz it is the main (head) unit of all the audio equiptment in the car.

Think I have made a bit of a break through... I can sort them by Created Date and as they are ripped from CD, track one was created before track two!!

However, still need the help - not all the tracks were from a CD.

and as for ripping with "01" at begining, I am a bit of a weener and have all my mp3s in the same format already - plus the head unit displays the file title and it looks a little ugly :P

  7. oh.. the reason i say name the songs 01, 02, etc and not just 1 and 2 is because some devices read the first digit.. um.. first, and base the track order from this.

    eg, track 1, track 10, track 11, track 12, track 2, track 21.. etc

To me, the easiest (also free) is to rename each track by adding a track number in front of the title as suggested by others. Download a freeware program called "The Rename Program". I think I found it on ZD-net. With a few clicks, you can easily do this. It's a general purpose file renaming utility that I have used quite a lot for such renaming jobs. It's very easy to add a number with "leading zeros" if necessary. There are lots of other "renaming" utilities that would work as well. Just do a search on ZD-net. Hope this helps.

I am having the same problem with Mp3 songs in the computer's hard drive as they play as in alpha order instead of track order.

The only way to fix this to add a, b, c, d, etc just before the song title in a folder of the album.

    Examples: A-Mr Bojangles.mp3, B-Happy Day.mp3, C-Coming Home.mp3 OR A-Track 01.mp3, B-Track 02.mp3, C-Track 03.mp3

This is the only way, use the alpha as the numbers won't work in the computer.
