  1. Now I've tried all three.
    I'm using the same source video (1.5 hours PAL - DivX) and trying to encode into the same target using the same bitrates. This is what I have found:

    Creating a PAL DVD (4000 bps CBR)

    * Procoder
    Very slow (about 10 hours) but extremely good results. I can't see any degration at all.

    * TMPGEnc
    Faster than Procoder (about 5 hours) but with less good results. Not bad but I can clearly see that the quality has degraded since the AVI

    * MainConcept
    Extremely fast (about 1.5 hours) but really not that good quality

    The file sizes is almost the same by the way.

    So my quiestion is: I've heard people screaming loudly that MainConcept is creating both the fastest and the best encoding but with my results there's a MILE difference betweeen Procoder and MainConcept. Am I doing something wrong? I'm using the default settings with MC and I would really like to use MC for my encodings since it's so fast but at the moment the quality is'nt very good at all.

    Has the quality improved in v1.4? (I'm using 1.3)

    The only encoder I'm satesfied with at the moment is Procoder which produces the results I need, however it's not fun to be waiting 10 hours with a 2MHz computer for it to be done.

    Can anyone point me to a page with a more accurate comparison if there is one?

    /Totta

    10 hours with a 2MHz computer
    that seems really fast considering ..

    all 3 encoders can produce excellent results -- tips on settings for MC are listed on this forum ... default settings are not it ..

    Same is true for TMPGEnc.
