I have been using TMPGenc for making vcds off my dvds, captured avis, etc. for about 2 years. Suddenly it stopped reading the audio. I don't know what to do. I have re-extracted it, and even tried older versions, but no dice. Can anyone think of a reason?

  5. 1) Do your files play fine, with audio, before trying to convert them with Tmpgenc.

    2) Open your avi's in Gspot or Avicodec. This will tell you what codecs you need to playback the file and if they are installed correctly.

    3) When encoding in TmpGenc, are you sure you are selecting the correct option to produce a program stream with audio and video (radio buttons bottom right of Tmpgenc window).

    Bugster,
Yeah, I am using the same methods, codecs, etc. I always have. The files play fine regularly, and at first I thought it was something with my capture card's codec, but I also tried a ripped dvd, with the wav I extracted, and I'm getting the same thing.

  8. Ok, so Tmpgenc has 'stopped reading the audio'. Can you expand a bit more on that. Do you mean you supply an avi with audio and video but the resulting mpeg has no audio. When TmpGenc is encoding, does it show a filename in both the audio and video input boxes? Do you use a seperate wav file for the audio, or just the avi? Have you changed any of the VFAPI filter priorities? What are they currently?

Please answer each these questions as at the moment I have no idea what else could be going on?

I have done it both ways. I have used the .avi audio, and used a .wav for the audio. I have changed the priority to make .avi higher, and if I am ripping a dvd to vcd, I have tried changing that priority. I have also tried older versions of the software. I will go into the range section and scroll, and no audio waveform will be present. I just don't understand it. It just doesn't read the audio. That's about all I can give you. I know it's not much. I did, however have a problem with the PC and had to re-install several programs so that Windows could read them, but TMPGenc doesn't really have an installer, and it was working when the other programs weren't.

  10. About the only thing left that I can think of is that somehow Tmpgenc's audio encoder has got screwed up. I can't tell you how to fix it but a couple of workarounds come to mind. The first is to get toolame and use that as an add on to Tmpgenc. This will encode the audio instead of Tmpgenc built-in encoder. A second option is to encode the audio seperatley, beSweet is probably your best bet here, the use Tmpgenc mpeg tools simple multiplex to join it with the Tmpgenc encoded video. Ensure you set Tmpgenc to encode video only if you do this.

    Hope this helps.

  11. I think you're openning a big avi file in TMPGENC. I don't know if it's a bug or limitation. Try to frameserve through Virtualdub or AviSynth.
