Hi,
I have a DVD in NTSC format, have ripped and compressed using DVDShrink but it's still in NTSC, I want it in PAL.
How do I convert the .vob-files into PAL, since I don't want to convert the .vob into svcd or something so I loss quality.
Please help !
Thanx!

Unless you have a video editor that can use vobs:
Get vobedit.
Extract all the vobs to video/audio streams.
Convert each set of streams in a vid edit prog to Pal.
Link them all back together.
Re-author a DVD.
There is no one-click - even 6 click - solution to accomplish all that.
Lotsa work.
Good luck. :c)
PS - Many people want to go the other way, but, if you live in PAL country, you should be able to play both PAL & NTSC with most players/TVs. Is there some other reason you are going this route? There's no place like 127.0.0.1

I live in Sweden ( PAL is standard ).
I can see the movie but it's no color on it and the resolution is kind of ugly.
The picture is full of small "holes".
I know that most TV's/DVD's can playback NTSC as well, but I don't know how. (My friends succeed in doing this)
I got a Philips 32" Widescreen from year 1996 I think, and a Pioneer DVD 344 (I think) from 2002. I think these would do the job but I can't find the instruction manuals ....

And it looks OK on PC? I don't know what the "holes" could be.
Have you looked online about your player? Maybe there's some info stored that's same as the manual. It would be a much easier route for you if it turned out you can actually view NTSC.
Any clues on your player's menu screen? Mine let's you select between them or leave it at AUTO.There's no place like 127.0.0.1

Try this to make your player multi region, i found it on another forum on this site.
1)Turn the player on with no disc in the tray. No disc is diplayed.
2)Open the tray and then close, while loading quickly press setup on remote.
3)Select general by using the arrow keys and then press enter.
4)Select Basic from the menu and press enter.
5)Press display and current region will be displayed.
6)Change to the region you want by pressing condition memory on the remote and number of the region between 1-6.
7)Press display, this will display the region changed.
8)Press setup and this will save and exit from the menu.

Hi, it's all fixed now.
Its a Pioneer 444 by the way, region free.
If I start it while holding the ">>/>|" button I could select PAL as standard out, Auto was default, picking NTSC when the movie was in NTSC.
Thanx alot anyway.

You don't need to convert NTSC to PAL since most PAL systems will play NTSC without any problems.
There was a recent thread relating to this..............Regards,
