  1. I have an avi with french subtitles, but I don't want them. At the end I would like to have a svcd with permanent english subtitles.
    So I would like to:

1.) somehow block french subtitles in avi or cover them perhaps with a black "square", then use that avi in dvd2svcd and would end up with english subtitles on that square.

2.) use unchanged avi but modify dvd2svcd subtitle settings. The new subtitles would cover the old ones and would still be readable. The default settings provide white subtitles. I would like to have at least white subtitles with black borderline so I can distinguish them from the old french subtitles or have subtitles on the black/grey background and not directly on a movie "picture"

    Thank you for your help!

  2. If you have an avi with permanent subtitles already on it, you can't really remove them - other than covering them up with your new subtitles as you say.

You will need to download or create a new set of English subtitles.

I don't know about using DVD2SVCD to add these 'external' subtitles into your avi.

VirtualDub has several filters and options to add permanent subtitles - I think you can put a solid box behind them in at least one of the filters.

You could frameserve from VirtualDub into your favourite encoder.

There may be way of getting DVD2SVCD to do this, but I'm not an expert on that software I'm afraid.

    ' hope that's some help.

    cheers,
    mcdruid.
