No info leads to very little help. You don't even say the type of file, but if it happens to be the dreaded xvid...

do a search on this site for xvid problems and you'll see loads of existing threads on the hassles they cause.

Someone else created that problem file and by downloading it, you've taken on the headaches.

  3. You need a downloaded movie .file format converter.

I don't know much about the downloaded movie .file format though, I mostly do mpegs and some others.

You might be able to find info on your .file downloaded movie in the convert section to the left, the green area, 5th down from where it says How To.

If you really want help with something you should provide some type of info though. Downloaded Movie .file just tells me it's of the .file type and the movie content is Download. I myself don't know much about those.

I mean realy WE would need a little more info!
Is it a comedy, drama, tradegy, or musical type .file ?

  5. try loading your file into gSpot - and then tell us what it says.

...but you probably don't want to tell us the name of the actual file (see the forum rules)

    cheers,

  6. its an avi/divx which can be played on windows media player.

  7. if it's a DivX, and you have the right codec for it (the latest DivX codec is backwards compatible with most of the earlier versions, but not all - you sometimes have to install Div3) then there's no reason for TMPGEnc to have problems with it.

Have you tried gSpot to tell you exactly what codecs your file uses?

DivFix can sometimes fix problems with broken DivX's.

What error exactly is TMPGEnc giving you?

The more detail you give, the more helpful we might be able to be.

Otherwise, we're just guessing wildly really.

    cheers,
    mcdruid.

Raise the priority in the Direct Show filter in "Enviremantal Settings" in TMPEG. Raise it to +2 or +4,that should allow TMPEG to open any avi/divx file. You may still have a problem with audio since many divx files use mp3 audio and TMPEG doesn't handle mp3,it will encode but you won't get any audio, convert the mp3 to wav with VirtualDub. Then open the avi in the video line and the wav in the audio line.

I'll say what I first said. It's a download. It could be irreparable. There may not be any help for it.

If your getting errors while encodeing with TMPEG you probably have bad frames in the avi file. Look in the Tools section, there programs that can correct bad frames. Also in the forums do a search on "bad frames" there may be old posts that can help you.
