I've been creating VCD and SVCD's for a while and never got around to testing menus and etc.
I am about to buy a DVD-R drive and would like suggestions on the best programs to author DVD's with. I will be doing animated menus and etc. I will be converting 30 years worth of home videos for my family and extended family.
This consists of Beta Tapes, VHS and 8mm analog. The best quality of video resides on my 20 year old Beta tapes. I just have to get a new player, since mine recently bit the bullet.
I have the following packages:
TMPGEnc Plus 2.510xxxx
MainConcept 1.4
CCE basic
VCDEasy
Nero 5.5 with SVCD pluggin
My dad owns the following which I can have since he gave up on it:
Video Vegas 4 with DVD
Pinnacle Studio 8.xx
What programs will I need to Author DVD's and menus? I think VV4 is going to be way over my head. Pinnacle Studio is buggy and looks to be geared towards the general population.
Man, loaded question, I know....

Vegas Video should do just fine for the authoring part.
If that doesn't work out for you I'd suggest:
DVD-Lab
TMPGENc DVD Author
In that order.
