I'm about to buy one too and intend to use Pinnacle Studio 8.
A lot of people complain about it but for me it's been flawless.
I did some seraching of the forum and found quite a few people use it (although I wouldn't recommend it for anologue capture).

DVIO is what I use to "capture" DV-avi from my digital camcorder. I believe the Canopus does the same analog-digital conversion as some camcorders.
DVIO is very small, it lets you select if you save as type 1 or type 2 dv-avi. It's just "capture" (actually file-transfer), and nothing else.
Just because you aren't paranoid, doesn't mean they aren't out to get you!

  4. Oh yea, I don't know if this matters or not, but I plan to use the ADVC-100 just for converting VHS to DVD.

In that case, if you're on a budget, consider the ADVC-50.
It is exactly the same as the 100 but lacks:
    1) the ability to output back to tape (but you don't need that)
    2) it doesn't disable macrovision (but I have a cheap scart thingy which does this for me at source).

By the way, what do I need to do to PLAY an AVI file "back through" the ADVC-100 to tape?

  7. You export it back with a program like DVIO.

  8. ScenalyzerLIVE is popular amongst us Canopus users, although I'm using Vegas 4.0 to capture the DV files "exported" from canopus .

Your original source doesn't matter, everything ends up in the DV format.

I'm going to try the DVIO program also, since its small 32kb!

Question, do these programs differ in quality?

  9. After a week of using this card, I've tried multiple programs and ScLive seems to be the best overall. DVIO is a small program but you don't have a window to view what you're recording and there aren't any other options, just record only. ScLive is the most flexible program I've used so far for this card.
