Couldn't remember since I changed to XP, but here goes.

Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager -> locate drive

right click - select Properties - It's called "Auto Insert Notification"

    remove the tick :c)

    resisted razzing :c)

Thanks, Gees. I'll try that when I get home. I think I remeber seeing that option, but thought it was not the right one.

Yeah, well they tried to trick you by calling it something you might not expect. :c)

    You're welcome. :c)

  6. Hey Gees
How do you disable it on XP (besides holding the Shift key). Anything in Control panel ??

No. :c( It's not so easy in XP. I think it requires a registry entry change, which is always tricky. I've never found all the necessary info anywhere.

What I'd TRY - is keep putting different discs in and hope one triggers that box that pops up and - if lucky - click the "Do Not Do Anything (I want to handle it all on my own, thank you very much!) option. :cD

I set mine from the start to do that, so I have no auto-run probs. But every so often a disc will trigger that box and I always choose the (edited) option above.

    Good luck. :c)

  8. If you have one of those tweak-xp programs you can disable it from there too.

I am on Win2K and I can't disable the Autorun on the DVD-ROM and the Burner Drive.

There is nothing there available to make it permanently disabled and not like a Win98 computer can which is always off.

I have to push the shift key while inserting a disk such as a music CD for Mp3 conversion in the Hard drive.

Anyway, I don't use the disk drives very much as everything is in the hard drive or from a server in the network.

  10. If you use the windows support center, which is on every version of windows under that start menu then H, it has answers to do anything you want, including this one

    Didn't help me for win2000.
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?
