Because I don't always have access to my mac. Like for example the extra PC I leave at a friends house because I'm usually over there about half the time I'm off work anyway.

Should be free, Apple is mainly doing it to get people to use the music store. So it would be stupid to charge for the program that can use it.

You'll quickly find that itunes has such good playlist management that its worth swtiching to.

Macosrumors.com says they have played with a leaked beta, and that its over a week old but still has some major bugs still in it. We'll see tomorrow I guess.

i have to admit, of all the audio players, for mac and pc, ive been the most impressed with iTunes. Even more so now with the music store, ive always get my money's worth especially when you think you dont have to leave your house to go to the store to get a cd and typically they are less expensive when you but the whole album via music store than if you actually go out to a music store.

and the number of artists participating is increasing drastically

though, i still have yet to see Dave Matthews Band be listed....

    And we are all thankful.

I agree, itunes is the best I've used. The only PC compairason I can find is MusicMatch and its not a very good one. iTunes is WAY less annoying then MusicMatch.

Now if I Could just afford an iPod...

I like the playlistability, too. One of my workers has an older G4 notebook and I was impressed by the simplicity and functionality of the itunes playlist features.

    Are we there yet?

Yeah the playlist is really what makes iTunes so great. Its not perfect but its the best I've used.

Personally I think that apple should add both WMA and OGG support to both the ipod and itunes. Then it clearly becomes the best out there.
