    The Nu DDW081 does pretty well in the latest shoot-out at Tomshardware:

  2. I just talked to a buddy of mine that has the Philips DVDRW416 which uses the same CS as the DDW-081. He is seeing the same write quality problems when writing MCC 4X +R media at 8X. The last 1/3 of the disk has bad write quality. I am beginning to think this is a media issue. I do not have any 8X media to see what the write quality would be.

  3. Same CS and writing in 8x? Philips DVDRW416 is an OEM NEC ND-1100A and only a 4x writer.

    Even Tom lists the old specs: CDRW write @ 24x, and DVD read @ 16x, instead of the new figures Nu put on their website some time ago: CDRW write @ 10x, and DVD read @ 12x. Tom must have either trusted the claims on the box, or on the many vendors' sites that are still displaying the old stats.

    That drop in the CDRW write speed is especially disappointing.
