    hello gang

I need some guidance in burning a home movie edited In Imovie and burned with IDVD. I still have the original edited movie on my HD.

Both Imovie and Idvd have an option to output either in NTSC or PAL.

Can I use a NTSC movie created in Imovie, and set the IDVD preference to PAL to create a PAL version?

I checked the postings. But i could not find an answer to this question. I did see that PAL needs to be region 2, so the answer seems to be that even though PAL is an option on IDVD I will not be able to use that option because my burner is set for region 1. I have also found postings saying that PAL systems will play NTSC, although the quality will be affected due to speed differences between the two systems.

    Your thoughts will be appreciated

No, you cannot convert NTSC video to PAL with iDVD. It's a long and perilous process, fraught with failure and frustration. Don't bother. Region coding is in no way related to NTSC or PAL playability, it's just that region 1 (US and Canada) uses the NTSC standard for legacy's sake, and region 2 countries (in Western Europe) use the PAL standard for DVDs. There is no causation, and most region 2 players in Europe can handle NTSC video, as long as it's on a region 0 (all regions) or 2 DVD. Likewise, many DVD players and TVs can play PAL content in the US, as long as the region setting is compatible with the player (there are many exceptions to this, however). Why do you want to create a PAL version? If it's to send a copy to someone in Europe, try NTSC, and tell them to fiddle with their DVD player's settings until they see the movie in color.
I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

Thanks for the answer. I pretty much expected to hear what you said.

Will send them an NTSC DVD, and hope that if they cannot watch it on TV they will be able to watch it on a PC.
