  1. I am attempting to create a DVD with some video files that I have. Every time I attempt to build the disc, the process always quits. I receive an error message that says, "data rate too high". Does anyone have any suggestions.. I am working with mpeg-1 video, AC3 files and a Photoshop file as a DVD menu. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    It looks like one of the video clips you are using is out of DVDSP's spec from what it thinks the bitrate should be. Your only solution is to reencode the video or find a different program to master the DVD. Are you sure you're using MPEG1 video? I don't think any DVD players will play movies with MPEG 1 video and AC3 audio. You either want to make them with MPEG 1 video and MPEG 1 audio, or MPEG 2 video and AC3 audio(pretty sure).
    I like systems, their application excepted. (George Sand, translated from French), "J'aime beaucoup les systèmes, le cas d'application excepté."

    i have had this problem before and solved it a few years ago.

    It is usually caused by video clips that are encoded out of the VCD / DVD spec OR caused by capture cards. A lot of the time when the source input is cut off, such as changing a tv channel, shutting off a VCR, etc, it will cause a "spike" in the bitrate. Currently there is no mpeg analysis program for Mac OS X, i had to use VPC to see where exactly the spike was.

    I had this SAME error on over three different videos. However, the bitrate spike was at the END of the video clip.

    My suggestion?

    Take your original muxed mpeg files and run them through mpgtx to trunacate the last second or so. Maybe 1/2 second. Then demux, and go about the normal DVDSP process. If you need more help, PM me the DVDSP log output and I'll do what i can!

    Hope this helps.

  4. In response to the two posts.. first of all, I have attempted working with mpeg-1 video and mpeg-1 audio, but my DVD player doesn't play the audio. I have not attempted to play a file with mpeg-1 video and AC3 audio. Reading other posts, I was under the impression that u could do this. Has anyone attempted this before and discovered it to be an issue? Thanks for all the advice!

  6. I would like to try the above suggestion; however, I am unclear on how to truncate a video file. I have attempted to check through all documentation and could not discover how to do it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  7. Scratch that, I figured out how to truncate the file; however, I am still receiving the data rate too high error. Not sure what else I can do. here's what the error log is giving me:

    Data Rate Is Too High {Error Code: -32008}
    Building Aborted

    Any further help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    I believe the DVD spec allows for a maximum bitrate on MPEG-1 video of 1.7Mbps. Or that could be the max bitrate for the whole stream, audio+video.
